ABSTRACT

Concert Building for Pop Music in Surabaya is a place for showing pop music concert. It presents
entertainment for Surabaya people. As Surabaya has ever become a barometer for pop music in
Indonesia, the existence of Pop Music Concert Building is expected to revive the people’s enthusiasm
in pop music. Besides, this building can be an alternative for having Pop Music Show in the national
level. Based on the data obtained from SuaraSurabaya.net in 2008, it can be noticed that Surabaya
has not had a specific building for showing Pop Music yet as the locations usually used are field,
mall, and sport building.
This research employed descriptive method as it described the real object so as to be more relevant.
It also carried out field comparative study and literature study by having direct observation on the
field and literature to get the data reflecting facts.
The macro concept is communicative which interprets the essence of Pop Music. The final result was
obtained by implementing the concept into the design. The micro concept of shape is futuristic applied
in the interior design which uses acoustic material on the wall panel and ceiling. The micro concept
of land order is centered by having land arrangement position from the land centre. The centered land
order is adapted with the building function as Pop Music Concert Building.
The result of designing Pop Music Building in Surabata is expected to support people’s activities in
enjoying music concert presenting musicians and to be the people’s entertainment centre of pop
Music.
