True halftones. For true proof.
Whatever you’re printing, your Approval proofer will represent it more
accurately. Accurate in both its color and its image structure, the Approval
proofer is the perfect tool to be used throughout the workflow as a contract
proof. Color accuracy is attained through both dot gain and density. The
Approval proofer uses the same dot generator as the film and plate exposing
systems, giving you precise control over anticipated dot gain, at resolutions
matching those of the printing system. The mechanics of the imaging system
accurately reproduce the image structure so that traps and color breaks can be checked.
The Approval system allows you to input all important press parameters precisely. When loading a
new batch of media, the system’s density adjustment allows you to calibrate exactly, for consistent
performance day after day, month after month. Multiple proofs — even those made weeks apart or
in different locations — will be virtually identical one to the next.

The fastest halftone proofing. Most versatile, too.

A D VA N C I N G T H E S TA N D A R D The Approval system’s imager is still the fastest device in its category, at a rate of sixteen pages per
hour for the XP4 version (the two-page XP version outputs twelve pages per hour).
Setting up for a run is fast and easy. The imager can output color proofs unattended all night long!
With its open standard software interface and the ability to use many types of files, the Approval
system has been custom integrated into most major industry workflows. The Approval system is
calibrated to match SWOP standards, or it can be customized to match a wide range of other
specific conditions as well.

Award winning color.

With Kodak Recipe Color Software, the Approval XP System provides
cost-effective capabilities previously thought impossible in digital proofing.
Spot color capabilities so revolutionary, Recipe Color Software received
the prestigious Graphic Arts Technical Foundation InterTech™ Award. The
software also makes the Approval system Pantone® Calibrated, able to
image nearly every color in the Pantone Color Formula Guide (coated).

New donor colors and metallics. Unprecedented matching to corporate colors.

With this software option and the use of our new metallic, orange and green donors, the system’s
gamut covers literally millions of spot colors without the need to purchase large stocks of specialty
donors. It enables you to reproduce more brilliant continuous-tone images, and to proof Pantone’s
high fidelity six-color Hexachrome® printing process. The Approval system matches corporate colors
with unprecedented ease...it’s regularly used to proof duotones, halftones and 10-color jobs…and it
replicates virtually any metallic color with the same luster you’ll get on-press.

Open front-end versatility.

Recipe Color Software can be implemented by RIP vendors through our
open front-end interface, without requiring special media. You can use
the same file that you sent to your imagesetter or platesetter.

Proof on almost anything you’ll print on.

The Approval System enables you to proof onto an exceptionally wide variety of substrates. By
proofing on actual printing stocks, you’ll incorporate the look, feel and color of the final printed
job — eliminating the need to rely on potentially costly subjective interpretation.
The image transfers from the intermediate to the substrate in a matter of minutes, and different
paper types can be used without recalibration. Even proof on both sides. It’s the perfect system for
packaging. And because the laminator is separate from the imager, you can switch between similar
paper stocks without re-calibrating or slowing down production.
