 Use the target structure by providing dialogues/interviews in the exploitation stage.

5 Warm-up
minutes -T greets SS Greeting
-T: Welcome to my class.
-T asks one of the SS to write the date on the BB.
25 Presentation:
minutes - T sets the scene and creates a need for SS.
- T: I had a car. Now, I don’t have it. Setting the scene
-T: Which verb do we have in both sentences? And tense?
-S1: Have in the past.
-S2: Do in the present.
-T: So we have the simple past and the simple present. Can you link the two
sentences?
-SS provide their answers. Contextualization
-T presents the TS: I used to have a car, but now I don’t.
-T writes the title of the lesson on the BB. “Used to”
-T asks SS to open their textbooks and read the dialogue provided on page 28.
- T asks SS to underline the expression “used to” along with the verb.
-T What were Lucy’s past holiday habits?
-T elicits answers from SS and writes them on the BB. Dialogue
 We used to spend a month there every summer.

Form:
Subject + Used to + bare infinitive
NB: For the negative form, we use the auxiliary did + not + use.
For the interrogative form, we use the auxiliary did. (Did you use to…..?).
Ex: 1. I did not use to study in a boarding school.
2. Did you use to smoke?
Use
-T presents the use of “used to” and writes it on the BB.
 We use “used to” to express:
- An activity that we did regularly in the past (like a habit)
- A situation that was true in the past (but no more in the present)
Checking comprehension
- I used to played basketball.
-T: What do you think? Negative
-SS: Wrong. checking
-T: Good. So what should we say?
-SS: I used to play basketball.
-T checks Ss’ comprehension.
8 Practice:
