Re: Recommendation for Michaela C.

Rohde

October 10, 2018

To Whom It May Concern:

I am delighted to write this letter in strong support of Michaela Rohde’s application to your
organization. In my role as the Research Director at the Center for Primary Care at Harvard Medical
School, I had the pleasure of working with Michaela, who joined my research team as an intern, during
the summer of 2015.

My team typically hosts one full-time undergraduate research intern for ten weeks each summer. We
typically select an intern from a pool of 30+ applicants who submit cover letters, resumes, writing
samples and complete interviews with each member of our team. For the summer of 2015, Michaela
was unequivocally our first choice candidate due to her high level of professionalism and knowledge
of primary care during the application process.

Michaela completed a range of research projects during the summer of 2015. She was incredibly
motivated and dedicated; Michaela was able to work both independently and collaboratively,
depending on the nature of the project. She created excellent background reports on the primary care
systems in Spain and Italy, which we used to not only make a decision about which country to study,
but we also used Michaela’s research as background material in our final case report on Spain.
Michaela also conducted a literature review on opportunities to train medical students in innovation
and entrepreneurship, which helped our Center to publish a paper on our innovation program for
students. Michaela analyzed data from our management and leadership course for medical students,
which has informed publications and grant proposals in the past three years. And finally, Michaela built
a Center-wide resource on the academic journals that our Center team still uses as a reference when
selecting outlets for peer-reviewed work. This resource provides many of the critical details faculty
and staff need when considering journal selection and has been widely used across the Center. Many
of our faculty members have commented not only on the usefulness of what Michaela put together, but
also on thoroughness.

My team has very high expectations for summer interns, and Michaela continuously exceeded them
during her time with us. I was deeply impressed with Michaela’s ability to fit in and quickly become
an active member of our team. During weekly team meetings, Michaela was well prepared and
engaged, making thoughtful connections between our projects and the broader work of our Center
and primary care.

Michaela is poised, friendly, and likable; Michaela’s intellectual ability, dedication to health care and
ability to work collaboratively made her the most successful undergraduate intern that has ever
worked with our team. I have the highest confidence that she will be a fantastic addition to your
organization.

Sincerely,

Erin E. Sullivan, Ph.D.
