The research design involved 58 men & women who were diagnosed with AIDS

Phenomenological approach in combination with  interviews and drawings from

8 participants. (Colaizzi and Moustakas procedures applied as well)

4. Procedure/ Analysis
Interview analysis- reading through written transcripts to obtain overall feeling

Identify significant phrases and sentences (bracketing interview responses)

Formulating meanings into themes common to all participants

Integrating results into an in depth description of the phenomenon 

Validating the findings with participants and including remarks in description

5. Results
The analysis led to 11 main themes, quotes and perspectives were used to

illustrate multiple perspectives on each of the themes

The themes were based on 175 significant statements

Inclusion of tables to illustrate significant statements, meanings and themes

6. Discussion
Exhaustive description of the essence or patient experiences and coping

strategies the patients used to regulate mood and disease

Theoretical elements: Comparison of 11 themes from study with results from

literature

Implications for nursing/ Future research questioning
