MLA Formatted Essay

MLA, standing for Modern Language Association, is a popular way to format formal

writing for ease of reading and grading. MLA has standards set to create a similar style in

finished papers. The double spacing allows for clear reading. Standardized indents ensure that

you can identify changes in paragraph and topic. Headers are created to denote the writer, course,

and date. Pages are identified by the author’s last name followed by the page number. The font

should also be standard for uniformity and easy reading.

MLA contains uniform rules for various types of citations. These rules cover almost

every type of resource that can be used to enhance a paper. This is one way to be sure that your

references are correctly identified. This is also a good way to make sure that plagiarism is

avoided. By creating rules to follow, MLA helps students and writers feel confident that their

writing meets the standards of any collegiate peer group.

Task 10-Creating a Lesson Plan in Word

Instructor: Andrea Poser

Grade Level: Kindergarten

Lesson Title: Number Correspondence

Time Needed: 30 min.

Standard:

K.CC.4. Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting

to cardinality.

a. When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing
each object with one and only one number.

Objectives:

* Students will be able to count objects as one more is continually added to a growing

line.

*Students will show understanding of differing values of numbers 1 through 10.

Materials needed:

* small objects to count

* a number line, number flash cards 1-10

* blank tens block worksheet

* Pencils and Crayons

Discussion/Hands on Learning (15-20 min):

1. Model placing a small object on each number on a number line from 1-10 while
counting with students. Have students place an object on their own line for each
number as we count chorally.

2. Model using number flashcards. Turn over a flashcard, then find the number on their
Poser 12

number line. Count objects upon the number line to the drawn card. Count out objects
to match the number on the card.

3. Give each student a blank tens block worksheet. Turn over a flashcard. Have students
place a small item on each square of the tens worksheet until they reach the desired
number.

Activity: (10-15 mins.) Students will be working with a partner. Have children turn over a
flashcard and then the children draw a circle in each blank block of the tens worksheet until the
desired number has been reached. Take turns flipping cards and both partners draw each number
turned.

Check for Understanding: An exit slip worksheet. Students will be given tens block worksheets
with circles drawn in a specific number of blocks for each example. Students will count the
circles in the blocks and write the corresponding number to each example.
