EARLY COLLEGE CONTRACT

Welcome to college! Please read over this handout very carefully. If you agree to take this Leeward CC
course and the terms explained below, please sign and return the bottom portion of this handout by the end
of week one. If you feel this course is not appropriate for you at this time, please see your counselor as soon
as possible to discuss withdrawing.

Leeward CC’s Early College Program gives high school students the opportunity to earn both high school
and college credits simultaneously in a single course. These are official Leeward CC credits that can either
be applied to our degrees or transferred to other universities and colleges. Therefore, it is critical that the
Student Learning Outcome (SLO) integrity of the course remain intact. Early College instructors will teach
and run their classes as they would any other college-campus course. The standards of the curriculum and
expectations of the students will also be identical to the same class taught at Leeward CC.
All Early College students and their parents must sign a consent form during the application process that
says, “The parent/guardian and the student understand that the student is expected to participate fully in all
course activities, including labs, which may involve being exposed to alternative viewpoints that may include
material of an adult nature.” The aforementioned signature demonstrated acceptance of these conditions.
Moreover, by Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), all Early College courses follow Leeward CC’s academic
calendar. Thus, semesters begin and end on the same days as other Leeward classes. Similarly, breaks in
instruction (i.e., vacation/holidays, Spring Break, teacher work days, etc.) occur according to the University’s
calendar; Early College courses do not recognize DOE breaks.
As Early College students are both Leeward CC and DOE students,, they are subject to both the high
school’s and the College’s Codes of Conduct. If a student is a minor, any disclosures of abuse made by a
student, whether verbal or via class assignments, must be reported per state law. Additionally, any
disclosures made by students regarding sex discrimination and/or gender-based violence (which includes
sexual assault, sexual or gender-based harassment, sexual exploitation, domestic and dating violence and
stalking) will be reported immediately.
Lastly, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects the privacy of student
records. If parents would like to gain information about their child’s performance, they will be referred to
the high school campus’ Early College counselor.

By signing below, I affirm my understanding of the contents of this handout and agree to abide by the rules and
regulations stipulated therein.
