operation of ZXMBW AAA AAA Server hardware installation.

Intended Audience
This document is intended for engineers and technicians who
perform ZXMBW AAA AAA Server hardware installation.

Installation and
Commissioning Overview

Overview
Introduction This chapter describes ZXMBW AAA Hardware installation and
commissioning flow and also describes the frequently used
safety signs and related precautions used in handling of high-
voltage equipments.

Safety Descriptions
Following are the safety descriptions to be noticed.
Local Safety ZXMBW AAA contains high-temperature and high–voltage
Specifications hardware equipment, so only skillful and highly practiced
personnel are recommended for the installation, operational
and maintenance activities.

Safety Signs Meaning


Danger: Indicates an imminently hazardous
situation, which if not avoided results in death
or serious injury. This signal must be limited
to only extreme situations.
Warning: Indicates a potentially hazardous

situation, which if not avoided results in minor
or moderate injury. It may also be used to

Chapter 1 Installation and Commissioning Overview

Power Board Following are the dimensions of Power boards of ZXMBW AAA.
„ DC power supply requirements:
f The nominal voltage supplied by the power supply
equipment is -48V, and allowed variation range is -57 V
to - 40 V.
f DC power supply provides over-voltage/over-current
protection and indicators.
„ AC power supply requirements:
f Single-phase power supply is 220 V ± 22 V, 50 Hz ±
25 Hz, and wave distortion.
Power Power consumption of server cabinet of ZXMBW AAA
Consumption configured to the full capacity like <3600 W (16 A/220 V).

Installation Preparations

Overview
Introduction This chapter describes the essential internal and external
engineering preparations required before the installation of
ZXMBW AAA hardware equipment.

Environment Inspection
Background Environment inspection before the installation of hardware
equipment is an essential requirement of engineering
preparations. This examination is to make sure that
environment requirements are met and suitable for the
equipment installation.
Inspection includes the following examinations:

Inspecting Equipment Rooms


Layout of Equipment rooms are classified into two types:
Equipment
„ Main or Principal Room
Room
„ Auxiliary or Secondary Room
Main equipment of a system is placed in main or principal room
while associated or supporting devices of main system such as
operations & maintenance devices, uninterrupted power
supplies and storage batteries are placed in auxiliary rooms.
Both rooms are close and separated through a glass window.
Intervals between power cable, network cable, and trunk cable
must comply with relevant established standards and separated
from each other.
Dimensions of Room must be large that can accommodate the system
Equipment equipment. In first row, there must be as least 1.5 m clear
Room space for the convenience of opening the door of cabinets and
maintenance activities. When laying out multiple rows of
cabinets, place the front side of first row facing the O&M
console. Every two rows must lay out in a same direction. The
spacing between rear of the front row and front of the back row
must not be less than 1.2 m. The spacing between left (or right)
side of each row and wall must not be less than 1 m. Spacing
between the rear of last row and wall is not less than 1.2 m as
shown in Figure 2.

Height of Height of the main room is not less than 2.7 meters with raised

cabling.
Air- Use appropriate ventilating resources in the equipment and
Conditioning auxiliary room to avoid heating and disturbance. Air
and Ventilation conditioners can be used depending upon the climatic
conditions and economic conditions.
5% fresh air is permissible and equipment room must be
protected against from harmful gases such as SO2 and H2S.
Temperature There are different scales of temperature and humidity
and Humidity depending from place to place such as:

„ Long term operating condition: 15°C to 25°C (temperature),


30% to 70% (humidity).
„ Short term allowable condition: 0°C to 45°C (temperature),
20% to 90% (humidity).
Consecutive operating period for Short term allowable
conditions means that it must not exceed 48 hours and the
total accumulative operating period within a year does not
exceed 15 days.
Lightening and Adopt proper lightening measures against electric shock and
Protection direct lightening strikes. In frequent lightening areas, avoid
flank attacks of lightening and use protective devices according
to Class II civil buildings and constructions standards from
lightening and flank attacks.
It is also recommended to use colored or non-tint transparent
glass for windows to protect hardware equipment from direct
sunlight and filament lamps.
EMI Protection Equipment and auxiliary room must be separated from any sort
high power radio transmitters, radar transmitting stations, and
high frequency large-current equipment. Actual electric field
intensity radiated to the equipment room must be controlled
below 300 mV/m, and intensity of magnetic field must be less
than 11 Gs.
Fire Control Place high power fire extinguishers in equipment and auxiliary
rooms to control fire in case of emergency. Explosives and
other fire cracking materials are forbidden to place in
equipment rooms.
It is also highly recommended to use No Smoking or No Fire
boards in conspicuous places.

Verifying Power Supply


Power supply must be available in equipment rooms to provide
the necessary power to hardware and also supports sufficient
connecting terminals of different variations. It is better to install
an AC/DC distribution cabinet with its power supply capacity.

Stand-by Generators and UPS are highly recommended to avoid


any delays or disturbance in routine working of equipment.
Note: Ensure personal and equipment safety during the power
supply check and use the range of multi meter correctly.

Examining Grounding Conditions


Connect working ground, protection ground, and lightning-
protection ground of the equipment separately to the earth as
possible.

The ground wire layout of ZXMBW AAA server equipment room


must be of radiating or planar type. It is required to
independently place grounding cables.
Resistance Grounding resistance is usually less than 1Ω. It is duty of the
maintenance staff to check the grounding resistance on
different intervals. If the grounding resistance increases, proper
measures must be taken to reduce it as per requirements.
Improper measurements certainly affect the system operation.
Factors Note: Delay the commissioning if grounding resistance does
Affecting not meets the actual requirements.
Grounding
Following factors strongly affects the grounding resistance:

„ Grounding cable
Use resistance reducing agent such as acrylamide to reduce
the resistively of poor soil.
Grounding resistance significantly varies in areas where the
temperature is 0oC and humidity is too low. Then it is effective
to bury the grounding stakes deeply in soil.
All grounding connection parts must protect against rusting,
and grounding bolts must fasten by using the mechanical
methods to guarantee the connection with low resistance.

Unpacking and Unpack the hardware equipment before ZTE Corporation
Checking engineers and technical person and verify the number of goods
Goods against packing checklist of items.
List of all equipment parts and technical documents are placed
inside carton No.1.

First, unpack carton No.1. The installation personnel must read


technical documents checklist. In case of any interior package
damage, make detailed records and reported. Unpacking
methods depend on cartons.
NOTE: Transport the hardware equipment with care and
protect it from light, heat, shock, rain, and water.

Opening Wooden Case Containing


Side Panels
Purpose This topic describes the procedure to open wooden case of
ZXMBW AAA server hardware equipment.
Prerequisites Meet the following conditions to open the wooden case.
„ Nail Hammer
„ Pliers
„ Straight screwdriver
„ Crowbar
Steps To open the wooden case, perform the following steps.
1. Open the side cover of wooden case by using tolls like Nail
hammer, Pliers, Straight screwdriver and Crowbar.

2. To retrieve side panels that are bound together cut off ties.
3. Take out the side panels.

Opening Wooden Case Containing


Cabinet
Purpose This topic describes the procedure to open wooden case of
ZXMBW AAA containing cabinet.
Prerequisites Meet the following condition to open the wooden case
containing cabinet.
„ Nail Hammer
„ Pliers
„ Straight screwdriver
„ Crowbar
Steps To open wooden case containing cabinet, perform the following
steps.
1. Use tools such as a nail hammer, pliers, straight screwdriver

Installing Base Mode


Purpose This topic describes the procedure to install ZXMBW AAA Server
cabinet in rack base mode if the floor of an equipment room is
antistatic in nature.
Prerequisites Meet the following conditions to install rack base mode.
„ Nail Hammer

„ Crowbar
„ Marking tape
„ Pencil/ink fountain

Steps To install in base mode, perform the following steps.
1. Decide position in the room to install rack base according to
cabinet size.
2. Measure few marking points with a long tape, and mark two
lines 760 mm apart with an ink fountain.

3. Locate the position for four groups of installation holes on


two lines. Similarly mark locations of holes for other rack
bases as shown in Figure 6.

4. After marking, drill holes with φ12 drill bit and burry
expansion slots.
Note: Hold the drill straight and tightly to avoid any damage
and inclination to floor.
5. Use vacuum cleaner to remove dust fro holes.
6. Insert the expansion nut and expansion tube into the hole.
7. Strike the expansion bolt with a rubber hammer till the
expansion tube of the expansion bolt fully enters the floor.
Note: Washer and nut on the bolt must be removed first, if
the expansion bolt is being installed.
8. Use ZTE universal rack bases. Rack bases of server cabinets
are shown in Figure 7. These are of three types as mentioned
below:
„ Type A: 150 mm to 205 mm
„ Type B: 185 mm to 285 mm
„ Type C: 275 mm to 450 mm

connections and lock all bolts after adjusting heights.

11. Place the cabinet in rack base and ensure that four feet of
the cabinet are about at the center of the quadrate surface of
the rack base.
Note: Justify pressure plate with installation holes on the
rack base.
12. Adjust the height of cabinet by rotating the screws of
cabinet foot.
13. Use leveling meter to level the rack by selecting any three
points.
14. Press the pressure plate parts on cabinet foot as shown in
Figure 9.

Purpose This topic describes the procedure to install ZXMBW AAA Server
cabinet in foot installation mode if the floor of an equipment

1. Hook up the upper part of the side doors.
Note: Fix wiring before installing side doors.
2. Tight the lower part firmly with M10×30 bolts
3. Insert the threaded ends of the hook components and
washers into the through-holes on the side beam.
4. Tighten the nuts from inside of the cabinet.
5. Mount four hook components to the two plane of the side
beam in the upper shelf of the cabinet as shown in Figure 14.

6. Side door has two installation notches at the top and is hung
on the hook from the top downward position.
7. Use M10 bolts with washers and nuts to tighten the side door
and cabinet bottom frame as shown in Figure 15.

Overview
Introduction ZXMBW AAA Server has two types of power supplies. One is –
48 V DC power supply for the alarm box and other is 220 V AC
power supply for server, router, Ethernet switch and background
terminal.

installation methods and precautions.

Grounding Modes
Background Grounding Modes vary from one equipment room conditions to
another provided by carriers. The grounding mode of ZXMBW
AAA server depends on grounding condition of an equipment
room. Following are the grounding modes.
„ In a normal equipment room, proper grounding is available
according to related standards. If various cabinets are far

away from the power distribution cabinet, the cabinets must


be grounded nearby and connected with the nearest
grounding copper bar to reduce the effect of the ground
conductor as shown in Figure 24.

Precautions for cable Installation


Following precautionary measures are important before installing
cables.
„ Power cables and grounding cables must comply with certain
specifications in core diameter and color.
„ Make sure of the safety of human being and system
equipment during installation.
„ Mark both ends of each cable to prevent incorrect connection.
„ Separate the power cables and grounding cables from other
cables and bundled separately.
„ The upper cabling mode, power cables and grounding cables
routed through the cabinet top and bound with a spacing of

200 mm on the cable rack. In downward cabling mode,


power cables and grounding cables must be routed under the
floor and bound with a spacing of 200 mm on cable rack.
„ Inside the rack, power cables and grounding cables are
connected to the connection terminals on power P and enter
the rack from the round holes of the rodent-resistant net.
„ Reserve enough length to avoid insufficiency in practical
distribution of power and grounding cables.
„ Printed contents instead of scripts are recommended for the
cable engineering labels. Labels are pasted 2 cm away from
the lug.
„ Ground the equipments to avoid any damage or loss.

Installing Power/Ground Cables


Purpose This topic describes the procedure to install power cables and
grounding cables from server cabinet to power distribution
cabinet.
Prerequisites Meet the following conditions to install the power cables and
grounding cables.
„ Two inputs of same server cabinet are not of the same phase
„ When multiple cabinets are connected, phases of the power
supply must distribute evenly to reach a basic power balance
„ Three cores are brown, blue, and black
„ Cross-sectional area of each core is not less than 4 mm2
Steps To install the power/grounding cables, perform the following
steps.
1. Connect one end of brown cable with Terminal L of IN
terminal bar and other end with output terminal of a phase in
AC distributing cabinet.
2. Connect one end of blue cable with Terminal N of IN
terminal bar and other end with GND terminal bar in AC
distributing cabinet as shown in Figure 29.

four power connector boards.
Note: Wiring boards 1 and 3 are connected to AC input 1

Installing Ground Cables between


Cabinets
Purpose This topic describes the procedure to install grounding cables
between cabinets.
Steps To install the grounding cables, perform the following steps.
1. Connect the protective grounding cables of each cabinet to
grounding cable bar of DC power distribution cabinet.
2. Then connect to the copper grounding bar in the equipment
room through DC power distribution cabinet.

Note: Grounding mode depends on the grounding conditions


in the equipment room.
3. Connect all the cabinet grounding cables together securely to
form an equipotent object.
4. Connect all grounding cables before delivery and also fulfill
the following actions:
i. Connect the working ground GND and protection ground
PE inside the cabinet.
ii. Connect cabinet body with GND through grounding
conductor.
iii. Metal components of the frame are in good electric
contact with the cabinet body.
iv. Use no insulating paint on joints to avoid poor contact.
v. GND of adjacent cabinets in the same row must connect
with the yellow green copper conductor.
vi. Connect the front and rear doors of the cabinet securely
with the cabinet body through grounding cables.
Note: A grounding screw is near the cabinet body at the
lower part of every door, and same screw at the counterpart
position on the cabinet body. Connect them with a copper
cable to shield the external interference.

position on the wall so that the power cable, network cable
and telephone line can all be put in the trough.
Note: If the other ends of the above three types of cables
are at the same position, lay the PVC cabling trough onto the
cabling ladder along the wall and then enter it into the
cabinet (for top cabling).
7. Lay the PVC cabling trough down into the floor, and then
enter it into the cabinet along the cabling trough under the
floor.
Note: If the other ends of the above three types of cables
are not at the same position, divide the three types of cables
at proper location and enclose them in turn in a narrower
PVC cabling trough, and then lay them along the cabling
racks along the wall or under the floor.

8. While routing the cables of the alarm box, keep the cable
straight and smooth and bound neatly.
9. While bending the cable tails, handle the cables gently and
bent smoothly to avoid breaking the cores in the cables.

tight to avoid damages to the cables. After the cabling is
done, cover the PVC cabling troughs.

„ Cabinet arrangement must comply the engineering design
requirements.

a straight line with maximum error 5 mm.
„ Gap of less than 3 mm must be present between cabinets of
one row.
„ Front faces of a row of cabinets must be in the same vertical

„ The top of cabinets must in the same level with variation of
less than 3 mm.
„ The front door of cabinets must easily open or close without
any obstruction.
„ In case of multiple rows of cabinets, the front face of the first
row of cabinets must face the operation & maintenance
console.
„ Two cabinet rows must face the same direction with a
distance not less than 1.2 m.
„ The left/right side of each cabinet row must keep at least
0.8m away from the wall.
„ No components on the cabinet fall off or damaged. No paints
peel off or scratched.
„ Install the cabinets vertically. After installation, both the
horizontal and vertical deviation must not exceed 3 mm.
„ The cabinet installation must be reinforced for shockproof
purpose. If necessary, use expansion bolts to fix the cabinets
to the ground.
„ PCB boards must have good contact and must easily be
plugged and unplugged. After the boards are plugged in their
slots, their surface must be even and flat.

Purpose This topic describes the procedure to power-on ZXMBW AAA
system to check its running capabilities.

or short-term allowable condition: 0°C to 45°C
„ Relative humidity level is between 30 % to 70 % or short-

reliable
„ Grounding must be in good condition
„ SCSI cable or optical fiber between the disk array and the

Steps To Power-On ZXMBW AAA Server, perform the following steps.
1. Open the air switch present at the top of the cabinet.
2. Measure voltages between power terminals, neutral cables,
and grounding cables with a multi meter.
Note: Measured value must be in range.
3. Open switches on various connector cards one by one.
Note: Measure the voltages range between the phase line
jack, neutral cable jack and grounding cable jack with a multi
meter.
4. Power-on the Hubs and routers.
5. Power-on the operation & maintenance server.
6. In case of dual-computer cluster system, first open up the
disk array power and wait for 5 minutes. Start server dual-
computer 1 and dual-computer 2 in sequence.
Note: There are no specific requirements for power-on
sequence of other servers and various maintenance
terminals.

Introduction To ensure the safety of ZXMBW AAA server equipment in
transportation, the overall system is packed in separate
packages, including:

„ Cabinet packages
„ Door/Side panel package
„ Alarm box package
There are clear marks related to the product name, model,
damp-proof, fragile and water proof present at the outside of

Packing Cabinet
Purpose This topic describes the procedure to pack the server cabinet of
ZXMBW AAA system.
Steps Perform the following steps.
1. Clean the cabinet.
2. Attach the network access license.
3. Use four angle wrappers to wrap the mark plate and bottom
beam, and fasten with scotch tape for box sealing.
4. Pack the cabinet.
5. Put two EPE pads at the two sides of the wooden case as
shown in Figure 40.

50 mm*50 mm*600 mm washer to support the top of the
cabinet.
7. Pack the cabinet with its front up in an aluminum-foil
composite-film bag.
8. Gently put it in the wooden case.

13. Nail the cover onto the wooden case firmly as shown in

System has not been put into use for half an year, it must be
unpacked for inspection or powered on for inspection according
to requirements.
Note: During inspection if the equipment is found damaged then
inform relative departments in time for appropriate handling and
actions.

Requirements Following mentioned below are the requirements for designated


storage place.
„ Place must be clean, and have ventilation facility
„ Temperature and humidity must in appropriate ranges
„ Illuminating facilities must be available
„ Antistatic measures must be taken
„ Avoid direct heating and sources

Transportation
According to the transportation marks on the packing boxes,
handle ZXMBW AAA during its loading, transportation and
moving.
Loading When loading the equipment, make sure that the larger and
heavier boxes are under the smaller and lighter ones, and must
be balanced well and avoid inclination. Follow the stacking rules
mention on packing list of carton.
The weight of the loaded hardware equipment must be less than
the carrying truck. Load the equipment on truck that no jerks
and shock will effect the equipment.
Transporta Rainproof, dustproof, soundproof and impact-proof measures are
tion necessary in the equipment transportation. In open truck
transportation, cover the goods with tarpaulin. If the equipment
is transported by rail, enclosed train cars are required.
When transporting the equipment by road, control the vehicle
speed within 25 km/h to 45 km/h depending on the road
conditions.
The equipment must not be loaded in the same vehicle as the
inflammable, explosive and corrosive articles.
Movement Move the equipment with care and experience. Workers must be
experienced in loading and unloading the equipment from
carrying unit to ensure the safety. There are no requirements for
the leaning degree of the wooden case in move. It is preferable
to follow the labels on the packing boxes for the allowed leaning
degree of the cartons and the packing boxes of the computer
equipment.
