Materials and Methods

A. Apparatus
 Isoteniscope assembly (Pakisulat na lang na kaparehas ng format sa manual)
 Isoteniscope
 Thermometer
 3-way stopcock
 Rubber tubing
 Vacuum pump
 Water bath with heater and stirrer
 Manometer
 Condenser
 Suction flask
 Barometer
B. Reagents
 Acetone
 Methanol
C. Procedure
 Isoteniscope
 Clean with acetone.
 Rinse with experimental liquid.
 Fill the main bulb with more than half full of the test liquid.
 Place some liquid in the U-trap.
 Place a small amount of grease on the tip of the condenser.
 Attach on the assembly as shown in Figure 4.1.
 Isoteniscope assembly
 Close all the holes of both the 3-way stopcocks.
 Turn on the vacuum pump.
 Test for leaks.
 Apply a little vacuum.
 Enclose stopcock.
 Observe for change in mercury levels in the manometer.
 Locate leak and fix the system.
 Adjust properly the 3-way stopcock for 2-3 minutes while avoiding to
evaporate too much of the liquid in the U-tube.
 Admit air carefully through the stopcock until the liquid levels in both arms of
the U-tube are equal while making sure that the air will not bubble back to the
isoteniscope.
 Record vapor pressure at different increasing and decreasing temperatures
and its corresponding temperature starting at 20° below that of the normal
boiling point of the test liquid at 2° intervals every five minutes.
 Open all holes of both the 3-way stopcocks.
 Turn off vacuum pump.
 Record atmospheric pressure and room temperature.
 Perform two trials for each reagent.
