1(a) Straight Through Cable Standard TIA/EIA 568-A/B

Objective

1. To understand Ethernet cable and to learn how to make your own Ethernet cables and
connectors using standard T568A.

2. 2. To test the cable for continuity and correct pin out, the correct color of wire on the right
pin.

Theory

The most two common Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) network standards are the 10BASE-T
Ethernet and the 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet. The 100BASE-TX standard is quickly
becoming the predominant LAN standard.

LANS SIMPLIFIED: A LAN can be as simple as two computers, each having a network
interface card (NIC) or network adapter and running network software, connected together
with a crossover cable.

The next setup would be a network consisting of three or more computers and a hub or a
switch. Each of the computers is plugged into the hub with a straight- through cable.

There are two basic cables. A straight through cable, which is used to connect to a hub or
switch, and a cross over cable used to operate in a peer to peer fashion without a
hub/switch. The cable construct will be four pair, eight wires, for straight through cable
means that the colour on pin 1 on one end of the cable will be the same as pin 1 on the
other end, pin 2 will be the same as pin 2 and so on. The cable will be wired to either TIA/
EIA T568B or T568A standards for 10 BASE T Ethernet, which determine what colour wire is
on each pin.

Result/Practical Work

The output result is shown at the figure below.

Data Analysis/ Skill/Discussion

During the lab work ,we connecting 568-B wire to RJ-45 plug. 568-B wire is wire to transfer
signal or data between computer through RJ-45 plug connect to the computer. Inside 568-B
wire has 8 wire. 8 wire with different color, there are , g-stripe green ,G-green ,o-stripe
orange ,O-Orange ,b-stripe blue ,B- Blue ,Br-stripe brown and BR-Brown. After that, we
connect every wire into every pin inside the RJ-45 plug with follow the table is given on lab
sheet.first of all , we using cable stripper to strip off about 1 inches of the plastic jacket off
the end of wire, then we are arrange wire with pull to different direction to easy recognize
which is and insert inside the RJ-45 plug.Next ensure that connection is correct then insert
the jack into the crimper and squeeze the crimper tightly.Lastly, insert our RJ-45 plug into
RJ-45 plug tester to test our RJ-45 plug connection. If that is correct , it will light up every
pin. RJ-45 plug it can transfer any data to computer in offline .

Conclusion

At the end of lab work , we knew about ethernet cable and how to make ethernet and
connection using standard T568A, next , we able to test the cable for continuity and correct
pin out, the correct color of wire on the right pin.
