Ready for Fall

There is always a pivotal moment at the end of summer where I get very excited for Fall.

Summer and Fall are my favorite seasons but deciding which one is my favorite is a tuff

decision. Last week, when we had two nice days in a row, I got a touch of Fall and ever since I

don’t want it to be summer anymore. I love to go to corn mazes, bake pumpkin treats, and carve

and paint pumpkins.

Lesson Plan
Teacher: Emily Van Allen Class: 2018 1st grade class Date: 9/20 – 9/21

Subject: Science Lesson: Parts of a Plant Time: 2 hours

Standard: LS1-1-1. How plants and/or animals use their external parts to help them survive,

grow, and meet their needs.

Objective: Students will learn Parts of a Plant and how those parts help them survive.

Materials: Leaf, Roots, Stem, Flower Worksheets, Parts of a Plant Worksheet, Pencils, Markers,

Colored pencils, Colored construction paper, Straws, Twine, Glue, Scissors,

Vocabulary:

 Root: Keeps the plants in the soil. They suck up the water and minerals in the soil to

nurture the plant.

 Stem: Carries water up to the rest of the plant

 Flower: Produces seeds that helps create new plants

 Leaf: Breathe in the air and soak up the light that all plants need to survive.

Lesson: In this activity the students will be learning about the parts of a plant. They will learn

the basic structure of all plants (roots, stems, leaves, and some plants have flowers) and what

they do. They will learn about how there are flowering plants and nonflowering plants. We will

discuss what plants need to survive. The next day we will go outside to look at all the plants in

nature. After our walk, students will create their own 3D plant of their choice. This will include

flower and be graded on participation and labeling correctly.
