!  Obsessions-­‐  unwanted  thoughts  that  produce  
anxiety  or  distress  
!  Compulsions-­‐  behaviors  meant  to  reduce  
experience  of  anxiety  or  distress  
!  Usually  a  funcDonal  relaDonship  between  
obsessions  and  compulsions  
!  Clients  usually  possess  insight  that  obsessions  
are  unreasonable  
!  Not  caused  by  another  disorder  (e.g.  social  
phobia)
