CLIENT PROFILE
 Michael and Barbara Lannister have decided to downsize from their

larger single family home to a smaller residential space on Main
Street. Michael is currently retired from the police force and Barbara
will soon be retiring from being a school teacher. Their move to this
new downtown location will allow them to walk to markets and
bookstore. Some of their interests are reading, golf, and watching old
movies. Their style preference is English Period and Hepplewhite.
The new home should have either a small powder room or full bath on
the second level based on the layout of the 3 bedrooms. They will
need a separate reading room and office/computer area. Storage will
be needed for linen, clothes, and other items. To display photos and
other items, they would like a custom designed built-in storage piece.
ARCHITECTURAL STYLE
The architectural style of this building is Romanesque. The Romanesque

style features round arches over windows and/or entryways, with heavy
emphasis around the arches; thick, cavernous entryways and window
openings; thick masonry walls, rounded (sometimes square) towers with
conical roof; facades are typically asymmetrical; variable stone and brick
façade. The style emphasizes the Classical Roman arch as its dominant
feature. (ArhitectureStyles.org)
There were two phases of this style in America. The first during the 1840s-
1850s, which resembled Gothic predecessors with Romans forms.
Washington, D.C.’s Smithsonian Institution building (c.1847-1855) is
considered the most accurate interpretation of the earlier Romanesque style
in Europe (known as Norman in and around France). Henry Hobson
Richardson (1838-1886) brought in the second phase of this style in America.
He developed his own unique style that included polychromed walls, Syrian
arches, sculpted shapes, and Romanesque arches (ArchitectureStyles.org).

ADJACENCY MATRIX
CONCEPT STATEMENT
 The Lannister ’s home design will be elegant, charming and relaxing. The overall design
will be influenced by the English style and their love for Hepplewhite style furniture.
Chairs selected the project will have straight tapered legs with shield-, heart-, or oval-
shaped back that incorporate urns, festoons, cornhusk chains, and other typical
Neoclassical motifs. Other characterizations of Hepplewhite are upholstered settees of
serpentine form, window seats with scrolled arms, and small square- and circular-topped
inlaid tables and bookcases with delicate tracery in the glass doors. The main color
scheme will be a split complementary color scheme of cream and yellow with touches of
gold and blue as accent colors in textiles and décor. Crown molding will decorate the
walls with updated English period style wallpaper. The Hepplewhite style will be featured
in the furniture pieces and the custom-built display cabinet. Silk and linen textiles will
make the home feel luxurious and complement their classic style. The charming home will
allow the Lannister ’s to relax and enjoy their retirement.

JUSTIFICATION
 The lighting fixtures were selected in the English style to provide both
task, general, and accent lighting. They bring a sense of grandness to
the spaces. The finishes and colors continue in the English style
bring a light feeling next to the dark mahogany and walnut furniture
pieces. The colors remain in the gold, blue, and purple colors from
the assignment in Week 2. The colors and finishes continue the
English style with bold colors and patterns.
JUSTIFICATION
 The mirror will be above the

credenza in the dining room. It
will reflect the light coming from
the windows in the living room.
