VT REQUIREMENTS:

Requirement 1:
The burden shall be between 0% and 100% of the rated burden.

Requirement 2:
The voltage drop along the secondary wiring shall not be higher that 0.5% for metering windings and
2.5% for protection windings according to good engineering practice.

Requirement 3 (not mandatory):

According to the IEC 61869-3 the accuracy class of the VT is guaranteed only when the actual burden
of the VT has:
any value from 0VA to 100% of the rated burden (for the burden range I VTs), or
any value between 25% and 100% of the rated burden (for the burden range II VTs).
Remark 1: This requirement can be especially important (mandatory) when using VT winding for tariff
metering or when high accuracy metering is necessary.
Remark 2: Even for the burden range II VTs an extended range of burden can be specified in
agreement with the manufacturer, e.g. 0VA to 20VA or 0VA to 50VA. Then, the accuracy class is
maintained within this range.

CALCULATION OF TOTAL VT CONNECTED BURDENS:

The performance of the voltage transformer depends on the connected burdens at the secondary
terminals.

WINDING 1 (METERING CORE) (IEC Class 0.2):

The cable burden is calculated by the single length, the cross section, the specific resistivity for copper
and an effective factor for the wire length. This factor k wire is 2 if the return wire is to be considered.
Cable burden:
Length: lwire = 200 m
Cross section: Awire = 2.5 mm2
ρCu 2 O
Spec. resistivity (Cu): = 0.02171 Ω mm /m at 75 C
Eff. wire length in p.u.: kwire =2
k wire √ θ Cu √ l wire
Rwire < = 3.4737 Ohm
a wire
The total effective burden is given by the sum of all connected burdens:
Burden [VA] Burden Rb [Ω]
= 0.1 VA x 3 per phase = 13.44 kOhm
PROMETER 100_MAIN x 3
= 0.3 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
= 0.1 VA x 3 per phase = 13.44 kOhm
PROMETER 100_BACKUP x 3
= 0.3 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
= 0.15 VA x 4 per phase = 6.72 kOhm
MFM_ELITE 445 x 4
= 0.6 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
Total connected burden S'
(connected in parallel = 3.36 kOhm
= 1.2 VA per phase
incl. Rwire in series) (at 0.11/1.732 kV)

WINDING 2 (PROTECTION) (IEC Class 3P):

The cable burden is calculated by the single length, the cross section, the specific resistivity for copper
and an effective factor for the wire length. This factor k wire is 2 if the return wire is to be considered.
Cable burden:
Length: lwire = 200 m
Awire 2
Cross section: = 2.5 mm

Eff. wire length in p.u.: kwire =2
k wire √ θ Cu √ l wire
Rwire < = 3.4737 Ohm
a wire
The total effective burden is given by the sum of all connected burdens:
Burden [VA] Burden Rb [Ω]
= 0.1 VA x 13 per phase = 3.1 kOhm
BCPU_7SJ85 x 13
= 1.3 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
MAIN 1 PROTECTION_7UT6 x = 0.1 VA x 3 per phase = 13.44 kOhm
3 = 0.3 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
MAIN 2 PROTECTION_7UT6 x = 0.1 VA x 3 per phase = 13.44 kOhm
3 = 0.3 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
= 0.05 VA x 2 per phase = 40.33 kOhm
DFDR x 2
= 0.1 VA per phase (at 0.11/1.732 kV)
Total connected burden S' = 2 VA per phase = 2.02 kOhm

Sn = 25 VA Doesn't meet requirement
According to the IEC 61869-3 the accuracy class of the VT is guaranteed only when the actual burden
