Importance
Dell Wyse USB Imaging Tool configures a bootable USB drive that you can plug into the thin clients, and copy or pull the operating system
images from thin clients, or push the operating system images to thin clients.
New features
The following are the new features in this release:
• Added support for ThinLinux version 2.0 on Wyse 3040 thin client.
Support matrix
Supported operating system for USB Imaging Tool installation
The following are the supported operating systems:
NOTE: For the thin clients, both Wyse and corresponding Dell names are mentioned in the following table under the Dell Wyse
thin clients heading. The first part of the name represents the legacy Wyse name and the second part after the hyphen
represents the Dell marketing name. For example, in D90D7—Wyse 5010 thin client with WES7, D90D7 represents the Wyse
Legacy name and Wyse 5010 thin client with WES7 represents the Dell marketing name.
Wyse ThinOS
• Wyse 3030 LT thin client with ThinOS
• Wyse 3040 thin client with ThinOS
• D10D—Wyse 5010 thin client with ThinOS
• D10DP—Wyse 5010 thin client with PCoIP
• Wyse 5060 thin client with ThinOS
• Wyse 5070 thin client with ThinOS (Celeron and Pentium
processor)
• Wyse 5070 Extended thin client with ThinOS
Wyse ThinLinux
• Wyse 3030 LT thin client with ThinLinux
• Wyse 3040 thin client with ThinLinux
• Wyse 3040 thin client with ThinLinux version 2.0
• Wyse 5020 thin client with ThinLinux
• Wyse 5060 thin client with ThinLinux
• Wyse 5070 thin client with ThinLinux version 2.0 (Celeron and
Pentium processor)
• Wyse 5070 Extended thin client with ThinLinux version 2.0
• Wyse 7020 thin client with ThinLinux
NOTE: End-of-Life (EOL) platforms are not supported from USB Imaging Tool version 3.0.0. Existing customers must use USB
Imaging Tool version 2.1.4 and earlier versions.
NOTE:
• For USB drives greater than 32 GB of disk space and marked as Removable type, the following two partitions are created:
– 32 GB usable space, which is partitioned for OS image
– Remaining disk space is displayed as Raw or Unused when viewed using disk management tool
• For USB drives greater than 32 GB of disk space and marked as Fixed type, the entire drive can be formatted and is usable.
• Same USB drive cannot be used to store all the images—32-bit and 64-bit. The drive can have only one type of architecture either
32-bit or 64-bit.
• USB Imaging Tool supports both FAT32 and NTFS file systems.
• USB Imaging Tool supports fixed USB drives up to 1 TB of disk space.
• USB drives from other manufacturers are not validated with USB Imaging Tool and hence the tested USB drives mentioned in the
Table 2 are recommended.
• More than 1 TB USB drives are not supported.
Build details
This section provides the build details.
Fixed issues
The following are the fixed issues in the USB Imaging Tool 3.1.0 release.
Known issues
The following table lists the known issues in the USB Imaging Tool 3.1.0 release.
• When you push a pulled ThinLinux 2.0 operating system image with the Boot
+ OS option (2 partitions) on a new Wyse 5070 thin client without any
operating system image.
• When you push a pulled ThinLinux 2.0 operating system image with the Boot
+ OS option (2 partitions) on an existing Wyse 3040 thin client running
ThinLinux 1.0.
UIT-419 A window with Update (recommended) and Format and Update options are not There is no workaround.
displayed during the push configuration when you use a fixed type USB HDD drive
that already contains operating system images.
Important notes
• After configuring the USB drives for a pull or push operation, remove the USB drives after you perform the Eject USB function from
System Tray.
• Cloning is supported with the symmetrical USB drives. For example, you can clone fixed type USB drive to another fixed type USB
drive, and removable type USB drive to another removable type USB drive. If you want to clone fixed type USB drive to removable type
USB drive or conversely, then the cloning operation might not work.
• Images registered or added using earlier versions of USB Imaging Tool such as 1.x or 2.0.9.15 are not recognized by USB Imaging Tool
version 3.1.0. The workaround is as follows:
a Back up the images from the USB drive.
b To update the Merlin version, re-register the images from the backed-up location to the USB drive using the USB Imaging Tool
3.1.0.
• To upgrade the Wyse 7040 thin clients from WES7P, use the upgrade package of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. Standard Windows 10 IoT
Enterprise Image cannot be pushed to upgrade from WES7P.
• If the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise upgraded Image is pulled, then it cannot be pushed to Wyse 7040 thin client with WES7P for upgrade.
• After the Wyse 7040 thin client is upgraded to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, it cannot be downgraded to WES7P.
• Dell recommends that you select the 64-bit BIOS architecture while configuring the USB drive for pull or push operation of the
following images:
– WES7P image on Wyse 5060 thin client
– WES7P image on Wyse 7040 thin client
For all other platforms, WES7P Images are classified as 32-bit operating system architecture.
• Dell recommends that you to set up the backup folder with read and write permission for USB Imaging Tool. If the backup folder is Read
Only, then the Format and Update option in the USB Imaging Tool fails to configure the USB drive.
• After you push a BIOS image on Wyse 5060 thin client and Wyse 3030 LT thin client, the device automatically restarts.
• In a single session, you cannot configure local image and network image path simultaneously.
• You cannot add the same network image path with different file transfer protocols, such as FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, or CIFS.
• You cannot add the same operating system image—either local or network—with both .rsp and .xml files.
• On the Image Push screen, the information entered in the local image fields are retained when you switch to Network tab.
• On the Image Push screen, the information entered in the network image fields are retained when you switch to Local tab.
• On the Image Push screen, the information entered in the local and network image fields are not retained when you switch to Image
Pull, Image Push, Clone, or Settings tabs.
