Assignment 1

Thich Nhat Hanh was amused to receive a statue of himself as a birthday gift during celebrations in Thai Plum Village
on the 7th and 8th October 2018. Over 500 people gathered for a weekend retreat in his honor.

Brief introduction: Thich Nhat Hanh (釋一行禪師) is one of the monks having a great deal of impacts on the
development of Western Buddhism. In 1982, he established a monastery called Plume Village in France to train and
practice mindfulness in every life, so far Plume Village becomes the largest international Buddhist monastery in
Europe. Thich Nhat Hanh wrote more than 100 books to promote mindfulness practice and peace. In 2014, Thich
Nhat Hanh suffered from a severe brain hemorrhage. His health is getting better, and he is taken care of by the
students at Thai Land Plume Village.

Students of Thich Nhat hanh celebrated his 92nd birthday as known as Thay’s (老師) 92nd continuation day. This
