EADS CCQ at QSTP Tech 1 Building, First Floor, Unit 108
Speaker: Dr. Uvais Ahmed Qidwai
Associate Professor of Computer Engineering, Qatar University
Description:- In this presentation, a recently completed
project at Qatar University will be described which was AGENDA undertaken in order to help the oil and gas industry 5:00 – 5:05 : solve a bottleneck in industrial inspection of the Registration and Welcome LNG/LPG/Condensate tank floors which are not accessible usually in-service as well as for outside 5:05 - 5:45 : inspection of these tanks for possible defects. Due to Presentation the cryogenic nature of the products, even when the tank is brought to shutdown, it takes very long before 5:45 - 6:00: the actual NDT inspection would start due to slow Discussion annealing process in order to bring the temperature in 6:00 – 6:30: the working ranges for human operators to go inside and perform the necessary inspection. A robotic Refreshments and Networking inspection system has been built in this work that performs the same tasks at much lower temperatures 6:30 and hence reduces the shutdown time significantly. Close The resulting robot has been completely designed indigenously at Qatar University in a modular fashion to Access : achieve the above mentioned tasks. This tethered robot Free of charge but registration can perform the tank floor inspection using the standard is preferable via email: MFL sensing method which is the same technique used by the human operator. However, with the robot mariam.hamza@eadsccq.com replacing the human operator to perform the inspection, the hazards to the operator are eliminated as well as the subjectivity of the human decision making Target audience: is reduced due to robotic inspection technique. While Engineers, Inspectors, rigorous industrial testing still awaits the necessary managers, Scientists paperwork and pre-processing, the lab grade tests have interested in system integrity shown remarkable success and promises to be an and asset management excellent product in the next phase of the research. Key benefits : Understanding of new technology, interaction with leading practitioners.
