ADJACENCY MATRIX
HISTORIC RESEARCH
CONCEPT STATEMENT
The concept for this design was to take inspiration from the past and the cultures
that lived in the area. Much of the design aesthetic of the pueblo revival style
derives from the pueblo Indian culture. Some of the aspects such as art and
architecture of this culture inspired much of the color scheme and design of this
project. Being that this will be transitional housing we wanted the overall mood of
the design to be warm , welcoming and inviting. This will be achieved through the
use of Furniture , lighting , and the overall color scheme.

Part I
Prior to this assignment I was not familiar with using a cost estimation sheet. While using this
method of tracking cost I did notice that it was difficult to find items that were in the budget
but also went with the theme. While compiling the rest of my cost estimate sheet I did notice
that I had went over the given budget. One of the causes for this was that I did not budget for
the items selected to be placed in each room. I also did not plan for the additional accessories
For my design I believe that It was very important to use elements of the past to influence the
design decisions for this project. With native American culture being very prominent I used this
as a guide to selecting the furnishing and color scheme present in the project. By selecting
lighting that had a rustic appeal as well as tables with distressed wood I believe I was able to
By selecting paints that contain low VOC levels and lighting that only used LED bulbs we were
With this housing being used as transitional housing I believe that it was important to use
materials and furniture that would be durable to stand the test of time. The goal was to be both
On of the the elements of design that inspired much of the design of this project was texture.
While researching images of Puebla style interiors the most notable feature was the texture of
many of the items. This was easy to add into the design of the project without copying the
exact item. Another element that was used was the idea of value. With many of the color that
were used in the color scheme being neutral, I believe that it was important to use value to
Part II
This course has given me the opportunity to explore some on the different possibilities when it
comes to residential design and designing for transitional housing. One of the process that I
believe helped the most was space planning and creating several different space plan options.
Another aspect of this project that I believe assisted me was the cost estimation table. This
made the project challenging while also narrowing the selection down . With this table I was
able to get a better sense on how much everything would cost once it came together
The final concept that I believe assisted me with this project was the constant feedback I
received from my peers. This gave me an opportunity to correct any flawed ideas that I had. I
was also able to gain inspiration from my peers and their ideas.
