grade success. However, this Classroom Management Plan can also be implemented
in other grades with the correct modifications. I have not planned for a specific
content area as this plan can be implemented regardless of the subject taught.
Within this portfolio, I will illustrate my philosophy statement, what will happen
during the first day(s) of class and how I envision my classroom environment. I will
discuss classroom safety, policies, and procedures. I will also address what
discipline system I will have in place and the steps I plan on taking towards
motivate a single student as well as the whole classroom. Working on this project
has been very enlightening. I feel that I have gained a new insight into what I can
expect for my first year in the classroom. I understand that depending on the
school and district I am hired for, I cannot truly know what is to come. However, I
will make the best of this Classroom Management Plan to ensure that I have a
foothold on my first year of teaching. Working on the projects has also allowed me
environment for students to walk into. Students should feel as part of a community
and comfortable in the classroom. The students should be engaged in a positive and
high-energy environment to ensure success. I feel like I connect more with Fredric
Intelligence Theory and I would work towards implement both styles into my
classroom.
I plan on meeting students at their academic level upon arrival and work with
them using the Whole brain teaching strategy to guide them in finding their best
learning styles to become successful. The Whole Brain Teaching is a teaching style
that engages the students kinetically in the classroom environment. The students
are taught using different senses to maintain maximum content retention. I want
of learning important skill. I plan on teaching skills that would allow each student to
succeed academically and that could be used out in the real world. I want students
to be able to remember the skills and strategies I teach 20 years from now.
If kids come to us from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our job easier. If they do not
come to use from strong, healthy, functioning families, it makes our hob more important.

First Day(s)
On the first day of school, I will:
1. Be waiting at the door to great and shake hands with each student
individually.
2. Hand each student a number written on an index card and a sheet of
cardstock paper.
3. Instruct the students to look at the smartboard/projector/document
camera to locate their assigned seats (these assigned seats will change
frequently) and directions on what to do with the cardstock paper.
a. The directions for the cardstock paper are:
i. Take the sheet of cardstock paper and fold it longways like a
hotdog, so it will look like a tent when you stand it at the front
of your desk.
ii. You can use markers, crayons, or coloring pencils to write you
name.
iii. You may also draw or color the sheet of paper (drawings should
be school appropriate).
iv. You will have until announcements are over to complete your
name plate and place them at the front of your desk, so I can
learn your names.
“Hello class! My name is Mr. Martinez. I will be your 5th grade teacher for this
school year! I am so excited that you all have been specifically chosen to be in my
very first class for my first year of teaching! To begin, I would like to tell you a
little about myself. I have just graduated with my Bachelor’s degree from the
University of Houston. GO COOGS! I was born and raised here in Houston. I am
married, and I have two daughters, the oldest one is in PreK right now. The
furthest I have traveled, was to Lima Peru, in South America. I am the oldest of
six children.”
I will also ask the students to complete a survey of their interest and
preferences. This will help me get to know the students a bit more.
Once the students have finished the survey I will introduce Whole Brain Teaching.
I see Whole Brain Teaching as a teaching strategy that allows students to become
engaged in the lesson through stimulating one or more of the student’s senses. On
the first day of class, I will discuss:
1. Please – Okay
2. Class – Yes
3. Mirror Words
4. Teach—Okay
5. Scoreboard
6. The 5 rules:
a. Follow directions quickly
b. Raise your hand to speak
c. Raise your hand to leave your seat
d. Make smart choices
e. Keep your dear teacher happy!

Welcome to Cub Elementary! My name is Eddy Martinez and I will be your child’s
teacher for this year. During the school year, we will be working on a rigorous and
exciting curriculum that is designed to prepare your student for middle and high
school, and ultimately college.
Homework: Ensuring that your child complete any homework will also increase their
understanding of the content.
Communication: Please know that you can reach me by calling the main office
number, sending a note with your child, or by email. Also, please fill out my parent
survey so I can know how to best reach you. Your child will have a folder where
they will keep any homework and important information that I need to share with
you. Please check this folder daily.
Sincerely,
Mr. Martinez

Entering Classroom:
1. Moring students will enter the classroom, place homework in the bin on my desk
and begin working on the warm-up.
2. Afternoon students will line up outside of the door until I say they may enter.
o Students will enter quietly, place homework in bin on my desk and begin
on the warm-up.
Changing Classes:
1. For class changing, the student will form a straight line, in alphabetical order,
and get “hallway ready”. This means stay in a straight line and stay quiet.
2. The students will head to their next class and wait at the door against the wall
until the teacher lets them in.
Hand Signals:
1. Restroom (R in sign)
2. Trash (T in sign)
3. Water (W in sign)
4. UH COOGS –silence
5. Raising hand – for questions
Restroom Procedure:
1. Students will be allowed to use the restroom after their warm-up is complete.
2. Students will NOT be allowed to use the restroom during instruction unless it is
an absolute emergency.
Drills:
Homework:
Classroom Managers:
Positive consequences:
1. Verbal praise
2. Good phone call/note home
3. A mark on the students’ side of the tally mark chart.
a. The marks on the students’ side is for students doing a good job,
staying on task, etc. The more marks on the teachers side the better
the outcome.
4. Students can earn stars to level up a ladder system and go from novices to
legends.
a. Each level the students move up entails different prizes.
b. For example, after filling six stars, the students will level up, and
receive five extra minutes of recess, extra comfy time, extra reading
time.
1. Verbal warning
2. Tally mark on the teachers’ side of the tally chart.
a. If the students are not following the rules, a mark is made on the
teacher’s side of the Tally Chart. The more tally marks on the
teacher’s side, the severity of the consequences.
3. Silent lunch
4. Note sent home
5. Call home
6. Should students not turn in their homework then they will not be having
recess. Instead the student will be using the time during recess to complete
missing homework.
Student Motivation
To keep students motivated, I plan on instituting different student activities such
as:
Classroom Engagement
To engage the class in learning I plan on using the Whole Brain Teaching technique.
This technique requires students to move and talk. During lessons, I will be using
the “mirror hand” strategy which requires students to “mirror” my hand gestures,
voice, and movements. Then, I will give the students a chance to talk with their
table mates when I say “teach” and the students will respond “okay!”. The students
will face each other and take turns teaching the content, I taught, to each other.
Sometimes I will use a different voice or silly movement the student must repeat
when I have them teach.
Another way I plan on engaging the class is through the use of Class Craft. As
mentioned before, Class Craft is similar to ClassDojo. The students would all have
access to this program which is paid for by me. Each class will be a group and
within each class, students will be grouped into smaller groups. The purpose of
Class Craft is to:
1. Promote collaboration
2. Create social settings
3. Build teamwork
4. Create critical thinkers
5. Communicate between teacher and students
