DnD 5E Homebrew: Drinking Rules

any adventures have begun in the
simple tavern where the traveller may
rest, take repast, catch up on local
rumors, spin a tale, and quaff a drink!
The following brings drinking rules to
your game. Remember, always have
your characters drink responsibly!
Beverages
Dwarven Beer
The dwarves would be better known for their beer if they
didn't consume most of it before exporting. Dwarven beer can
be particularly strong even for those with solid constitution.
Dwarven beer adds additional sugar and hops to provide
additional potency.
Elvish Wine
Over the centuries, the elves have perfected the art of
growing and making wines. Most varieties are produced from
grapes, but any fruit may be used. Wine has become infused
with celebrations and religious practices.

Types

Cider Fermented juice from apples When enough liquid courage is imbibed make a DC
Mead Fermented Honey and water 10 Constitution saving throw or advance one level
of inebriation. Effects of inebriation are cumulative.
Beer Fermented grain such as barley or wheat

Ale Type of beer usually sweeter with less alcohol
① Disadvantage on Persuasion and Deception;
Wine Fermented grapes or other fruit Advantage against Frightened
Spirit Distilled beverage with no added sugar ② Disadvantage on Ability Checks; Roll Hit Dice
Liquor Distilled beverage with sugar and flavorings and gain temporary hit points
③ Disadvantage on Saving Throws; Cannot dash
Cost or move more than 10' in the same direction

Imported 1 gp To cast a spell, make a DC 10 Constitution saving
throw or the spell fails. The spell is not wasted. A
Vintage 100 gp short rest removes one level of inebriation; a long
rest removes all effects of inebriation.

Special
Human Ale
Known as mild beer or small beer, ale is perhaps the most
common drink and an important source of nutrition. The
small amount alcohol acts as a preservative without
intoxicating effects. It is made by fermenting malted grain
with yeast. Every tavern has their own brew and recipe.
