Contract Nos. RDA/SEEP/CONT-S4
Project Names: Construction of Extension of
Southern Expressway, Section 4- Mattala to
Hambantota
Contractor's General
Submission (CGS)
Description of Content :
Thi s refers to your letter NO:FSDIS4 -CHEC-219 3 dated 28th October,20 17 regarding the meth od statement
of
preloading about the falsework and resubmit the calculation of the falsework for your approval.
The meth od statement of unloading about the falsework will be submitted as soon as possible.
Your earliest reply on thi s regards wi ll be highly appreciated.
Introduction
As per the Attached falsework arrangement drawing Steel formwork system
has been used in the top. Just under the steel formwork 250 mm steel I
beams are placed at 1000 mm spacing as shown in the drawing.
Then just under the 250 mm I beam, Manufactured specified steel trusses
have been placed. Then 600 mm double I beams are placed at each ends.
Then just under 600mm double beams, sand jacks are placed. The just under
sand jacks, 800 mm dia 8 mm thickness casings have been placed. These
casing are braced using 450 mm I beams and casing are placed on the
pile cap foundation and center casings are placed on 5x2x 1.6concrete pad.

Considering fi gure No 07-g axia l force for the concrete pad
from one casing =575 kN
Therefore Axial force from two casing= 11 50 kN
(foundation designs should be designed for allowable bearing pressure
therefore the load combinat ions should be taken as service loads)
Consider one casing standing area as 2 x 5 m 2
Bearing pressure to the pad = 1150kN/ 1Om2 = 11 5 kN/m2
D=26 kN/1113
c, = l(as a wall)

The Method Statement of Preloading about The Falsework at BRI-
04(Pl5 and P16 Pier Head)
According to the cal culation concrete pouring area should be preloaded with 73.93 kN/m2
Therefore 1m x 1m x I m concrete cubes are placed on the prepared platform. (One cube weight
shall be consider as 24kN/m2 )
Before placing the cube on the platform initial levels are measured at the shown locations as per
the calculation fi gures.
Then loading shall be carried out until 50% from the nominal load pressure (Total load on
the platform=66.3 kN/m 2 x 34.8 m2 x 50%=1153.62 kN and this load should be uniformly
distributed over this area) and level are measured at the observation points.
Then loading shall be carried out until 75% from the nominal load pressure (Total load on
the platform=66.3 kN/m 2 x 34.8 m2 x 75%=1730.43 kN and this load should be uniformly
distributed over this area) and level are measured at the observation points.
Then loading shall be carried out until 100% from the nominal load pressure (Total load on
the platform=66.3 kN/m 2 x 34.8 m 2 x 100%=2307.24 kN and this load should be uniformly
distributed over this area) and level are measured at the observation points.
Finally, loading shall be carried out until 110% from the nominal load pressure (Total load on
the platform=66.3 kN/m 2 x 34.8 m 2 x 110%=2537.964 kN and this load should be uniformly
distributed over this area) and level are measured at the observation points.
The preloading pressure maintained for 24 hour and levels are taken at the observation points
Then again deflection shall be checked from the difference of final and initial level readings.
