1. Research is an action to find out a thing that is proven by datas. Other opinion states that
research is is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict and control the observed
phenomenon.
2. A.Quantitative studies measure variables with some precision using numeric scales.
B. Qualitative studies are based on direct observation of behavior, or on transcripts of
unstructured interviews with informants.
3. Variables represents the measurable traits that can change over the course of a scientific
experiment
4. A.Dependent Variable
The variable that depends on other factors that are measured. These variables are
expected to change as a result of an experimental manipulation of the independent
variable or variables. It is the presumed effect.
B. Independent Variable
The variable that is stable and unaffected by the other variables you are trying to
measure. It refers to the condition of an experiment that is systematically manipulated
by the investigator. It is the presumed cause.

LANGUAGE TESTING
1. A. Diagnostic test
A diagnostic test is a test that helps the teacher and learners identify problems that
they have with the language. Example. At the start of the course, the teacher gives the
learners a diagnostic test to see what areas of language need to be in the syllabus.
B.Achievement test
An achievement test evaluates a learner's understanding of a specific course or study
programme. Example. The learners have finished units 1 - 4 of a coursebook and the
teacher now gives them an achievement test based on what they have seen in these
units. The test is taken from the teacher's book. In the classroom. Achievement tests
can have many additional functions aside from evaluation.
C.Language dominance test
Is standardized tests that assess someone's language proficiency of a
foreign/secondary language. Example english speaking test, arabic speaking test.
2. A. Formative assessment
The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing
feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to
improve their learning.
o help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work
o help faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems
immediately
Examples of formative assessments include asking students to:
o draw a concept map in class to represent their understanding of a topic
o turn in a research proposal for early feedback
B. Summative assessment
The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an
instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.
Examples of summative assessments include: a midterm exam, a final project, a paper, a
senior recital
3. Direct Test
Direct test items ask the student to complete some sort of authentic action. Direct test
items used authentic assessment approaches. Examples:
For speaking: Interviews and presentations
For writing: Essay questions
For reading: Using real reading material and having the student respond to question
verbally and or in writing
For listening: Following oral directions to complete a task
The primary goal of direct test items is to be as much like real-life as possible.
Indirect Test
Indirect test items measure a students knowledge about a subject.Indirect test items assess
knowledge without authentic application. Below are some common examples of indirect
test items.
Multiple choice questions, Cloze items, Paraphrasing, Sentence re-ordering
