342 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. Jesus
promised that “all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life” (John
6:40). That active belief is what will bring us into contact with Jesus. It will open the
floodgates of his blessing and his love for us. So when you go to visit Jesus in the
Blessed Sacrament, ask him to raise up your human logic and fill it with the logic of
devine love. Ask him to reveal himself to you, and listen for his still, small voice in your heart.
After all “prayer is conversation with a God who loves to talk with us and to embrace us with his
love.” (Encountering Jesus in Adoration.) Commit to an hour and try adoration for four weeks.
One hour of your choice per week. Then, if you so desire to leave the program, by all means,

The widow in today’s gospel gave everything she had. She didn’t hold back, she trusted that
God would care for her. In our homes we are called to imitate the widow and invest totally in
one another, paying with the coins of generous love and empowering trust.

Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human
Development. Over 43 million people in the United States live in poverty. This
collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles
they face as they work to bring permanent and positive changes to their communities.

Please note: St. Augustine Rectory will be closed November 22 & 23 for Thanksgiving. The Mass on
Thanksgiving Day (November 22) will be at 9:00am. Canned goods will be collected during the offertory
and placed in the Christmas food baskets to be distributed to those in need.

The Divorced, Separated and Widowed Catholics of Akron will be sponsoring a talk on
Monday, November 12, at 7:30pm. Do you understand the difference between
Medicare and Medicaid? This event will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Convent Building, 1945 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. This event is open at no cost
to single people of all faiths. Refreshments will be at 7:15pm. Our speakers will start

St. Augustine Men’s Fellowship will meet in the school cafeteria from 7 8:25am on Saturday, November
17. We will continue our study of the book “The Marian Option” and we will pray a rosary for Marriage,
the Family and World Peace. All men of the parish are invited to join us.

In the October/November envelope packet, you will find an envelope for Christmas
Flowers. A donation to the Flower Fund helps to defray costs of flowers and decorations
in our church during the upcoming Christmas season. For those using Faith Direct, if you

Jaycees are hosting the Barberton Winter Wonderland Festival on Saturday, November 24 from
4-8:00pm. Festivities once again will include performances by the St. Augustine Choir. Hot
chocolate, delicious cookies made by parishioners and chili will be served on the rectory lawn
throughout the evening. In order to make this event run smoothly, we are in need of volunteers
to help spread the Christmas Cheer. Anyone interested in helping out, please call Carolyn King

Attention Bakers….Start your ovens! Because of you and your baking talents, we are able to
offer cookies from the parish. Please consider making a batch or two of your favorites to be
passed out at the Christmas Walk. Cookies, cupcakes & candies can be delivered to the
school cafeteria on Friday, November 23 between the hours of 1-3pm where the elves will
be assembling treat trays for the Christmas Walk. Want to be a part of the COOKIE DECORATING
PARTY ~ Icing, sprinkles and caroling. Joyful Hearts Ministry is looking for a team of “elves” to help frost
in-house baked Christmas confections along with tray assembly. The party will begin at 1:00 p.m. on
Friday, November 23. Bring an apron and be ready to roll up your sleeves and get right to work. Last
year, we were finished in less than two hours. It’s a fun afternoon and we are pleased to have our

Free….Food, Fellowship and Faith for Adults – Join us Monday, November 26 (Encore
Presentation) at St. Sebastian Parish, Zwisler Hall – 500 Mull Avenue,
Akron. Our speaker will be Fr. Kevin Klonowski, Parochial Vicar Holy
Family Parish, Stow. The topic will be “Lost & Found: How to Help
Adult Children Find their Way Back to the Faith.” We will begin at 7:30 pm. Cookies

JOYFUL HEARTS MINISTRY will be having a short business meeting on Friday, November 30 immediately

St. Augustine will once again have an Advent Communal Reconciliation Service on Monday,
December 10 at 7:00pm in the church. Numerous priests will be available and you may
receive the sacrament either face-to-face or with a screen in a confessional. All are encouraged to take
part in this special sacrament, please plan accordingly.

At the Christmas Dinner this year we are going to have a PARTY! Doors to the SAC will open
at 1:00pm and our guests will join in the festivities by decorating a tree. At 1:30 p.m. prayers
of thanksgiving will be offered and dinner will be served. The menu will consist of: Cheese,
Nuts and Crackers, Homemade Bread and Butter, Fresh Green Salad, Cabbage Rolls, Turkey
Breast, Baked Ham, Kielbasa and Kraut, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and a Christmas
Dessert Bar. After dinner, there will be caroling, games and an opportunity to choose a gift upon
departure. It is going to take a lot of hands to make this come to fruition. To prepare an event as such
we are in need of supplies, servers and monetary donations. Take this opportunity to give from your

News from St. Augustine School:

If you drive by the school between 7:30 and 7:50am on any school day, watch for
members of Student Council greeting students with encouraging handmade signs and
high-fives. What a great way to brighten everyone's day!

For the past several years, Archbishop Hoban High School students have made a trip to Mount
Vernon, VA, to work alongside the archaeologists at the estate of George Washington. During
this year's trip, which occurred just a few weeks ago, two students, including Dominic
Anderson '19, made a substantial discovery during their dig. Dominic Anderson, while not a
graduate of St. Augustine School, is an active member of St. Augustine Parish and we are proud
to count him in our number.
Congratulations to the recipients of honor roll at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School who are
graduates of St. Augustine School. Ella Brindo made the Principal's List for her outstanding
grades, while George Linberger earned Merit Roll. We are proud of their diligence!
Congratulations also to our Students of the Week for their demonstration of our featured
character trait of love: Anna Smith, La'Bella Edwards, Eleanor Talley, Andrew Ramsey, Mallory
Hornak, Jayvon Valle, Isabella Stock, Adalyn Woodruff, Isabella Matusicky, and Danielle
Boggs.
Finally, our students are busy with their canned food drive to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul
Society of the parish. They are optimistic that they can collect more than last year's 5000 cans.

Please note: When using the kneelers please do not allow them to hit the floor hard.
It is not only a huge distraction but it is causing them to wear down and break.

Theology on Tap Akron is excited to again be at On Tap at the Harbor Front Grill

Gennesaret's 27th annual Home Run for the Homeless benefit race will be Thanksgiving
Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, in west Akron. 8:30am is the one-mile fun run/walk, and at 9am is
the four-mile race near and through historic Glendale Cemetery. Register via
www.gennesaret.net. The race registration fee until November 21 is $20 per person; two or
more family members are $10 each. The race registration fee on race day is $25 per person from 7:15-
8:45am at Gennesaret's Family Nutritional Center, 419 West Exchange St., Akron. The fun run/walk
registration is $2. For more info, call 330.858.6777. Proceeds benefit all-volunteer Gennesaret, which
serves poor families and individuals approximately 600 hot meals weekly and provides bags of groceries
in the area of Akron where there is the greatest need.

A Christmas Concert with the Daughters of St. Paul Choir will take place on Friday, December
