MICROCODE VERSION 0780/A

RELEASED 05/19/2008

Newly supported features and functions for Version 0780/A

1 Support for 400GB FC drives (DF-F700-AGF400)
Contents Support for 400GB FC drives (DF-F700-AGF400)

Improvements for Version 0780/A

1 Queue-full occurs often

Contents I6B00 [Performance] Queue-full occurs often (Port-vw, Connected host num. =yyy, Queue depth=512)” is
displayed in the Web information message. The queue depth in one front-end port is 512.
A controller block may occur with the Web information message “HG0413 Data share job time-out” when
the hosts continue to issue more than 512 commands to one port at the same time. So the subsystem
displays Web message “I6FB00 [Performance] Queue-full occurs often” when Queue full occurs more
than 100 times per 30min. to one port of the subsystem. Readjustment of system configuration needed.
(Additional details please refer to Maintenance Manual “Message Chapter 4 Progress Message “message
code I6FB00” (MSG 04-0482)”.

2 Improvement of read I/O response time

Contents The transfer method of read data packet and response packet changed from division to batch.

The change of contents for Version 0780/A

1 Controller blockade may occur

Phenomena Controller blockade may occur with web message " H90320 Watch-dog time-out"
because debug task continues to run when TCP connection is continuously established
in the TCP 111 port via the LAN port by Security scan and the Service scan etc.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) Medium
Conditions of Occurrence With all of the following conditions met, the phenomenon may occur.
(a) Micro program version is 0760/B or later
(b) TCP connection is continuously established in the TCP 111 port for the internal
testing via the LAN port by the LAN accesses (Security scan and the Service scan etc.)
other than Port scan
Cause Due to microcode bug in task control process when LAN accesses TCP 111 port
Affected Products/Version Version : 0760/B or later
Fixed Product/Version Version : 0780/A
Category LAN network
Changed Part MICRO-Disk

2 Controller blockade may occur
Phenomena When uncorrectable cache memory error or the correctable cache memory error in the
cache memory slot is over the threshold, controller blockade may occur without
determining the failure slot of the cache memory. Therefore, all the cache memory on
the blockaded controller may need replacement although the actual failure is in one
slot.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) Low
Conditions of Occurrence With all of the following conditions met, the phenomenon may occur.
1. One of the following conditions is met
- Read command or Write command is issued by a host computer
- The remote copy process is executed when True Copy remote replication or True
Copy Extended Distance feature is enabled
2 One of the following conditions is met
- Uncorrectable error in DMA transaction on half the address space of cache memory
- Correctable error in DMA transaction on half the address space of the cache memory
and the correctable error in the cache memory slot have been over the threshold.
Affected Products/Version Version : All microcode versions
Fixed Product/Version Version : 0780/A
Category Cache memory error
Changed Part MICRO-Disk

3 DF700-RKNAS boot time-out may occur when subsystem boots up

with enabling Cache Partition Manager.
Phenomena DF700-RKNAS boot-up may failed with Web message "IB2000 NNC Boot time-
out[BIOS][post xxxx,yyyy](NNC-Z)" when subsystem boots up with enabling Cache
Partition Manager after the LU ownership setting has been changed, because
subsystem may continue to reply "0B/C006" status to host I/O for the LU which the
ownership has been changed.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) Medium
Conditions of Occurrence With all of the following conditions met, the phenomenon may occur.
(a) The LU ownership setting has been changed by using Storage Navigator Modular
when Cache Partition Manager is locked or disabled

(b) Cache Partition Manager is unlocked or enabled after the condition of (a)

(c) LU ownership change process is executed by one of the following condition

(c-1) The LU ownership setting has been changed for the same LU as (a) by using
Storage Navigator Modular
(c-2) Host I/O is issued to the same LU as (a) via the controller which do not have the
LU ownership.
Affected Products/Version Version : All microcode versions
Fixed Product/Version Version : 0780/A
Category LU ownership change, Cache Partition Manager
Changed Part MICRO-Disk

4 PIN data in cache memory after data recovery process completed.
Phenomena PIN data continues in cache memory after the data recovery process has completed if
found during the data recovery. The microcode is supposed to try to write the PIN data
to a HDD when the microcode has found the PIN data during the data recovery.
However, The microcode does not try to write the PIN data to a HDD during the data
recovery process by the microcode bug.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) Medium
Conditions of Occurrence With one of the following conditions met, the phenomenon may occur.
(a) Correction copy process executed to spare HDD after HDD blockade and PIN data
(b) Correction copy process on replaced HDD after HDD blockade and PIN data
(c) Intermittent HDD failure occurs in spare HDD and PIN data is created when the
correction copy process is executed to a spare HDD
(d) The intermittent HDD failure occurs in the replaced HDD and a PIN data is created
when the correction copy process is executed to the replaced HDD
(e) The intermittent HDD failure occurs in the spare HDD and a PIN data is created
when the dynamic-sparing process is executed to the spare HDD
(f) The intermittent HDD failure occurs in the replaced HDD and a PIN data is created
when the copy-back process is executed to the replaced HDD
Affected Products/Version Version : All microcode versions
Fixed Product/Version Version : 0780/A
Changed Part MICRO-Disk

5 Subsystem may be down with the web message "Backend loop

change error [OWN]" by the SENC failure.
Phenomena Both controllers blockaded may occur and subsystem may be down with the web
message "HE0710 Backend loop change error [OWN]" by the SENC failure, which is
that the control of all HDD in a unit cannot change from the failure SENC to the active
SENC immediately.
Severity (High, Medium, Low) High
Conditions of Occurrence With all of the following conditions met, the phenomenon may occur.

(a) One or more RKAAT, RKAATL, RKAJAT, RKAJATL connected to subsystem

(b) Microcode detects the following hardware failure in an SENC. The failure is that
the control of all HDD in a unit cannot change from the failure SENC to the active
SENC immediately

(c) One of the following processes is executed

- The gathering of the SMART information executed for the SATA HDD in the unit in
with the SENC of (b) installed. This process is executed for each SATA HDD once per
24 hours
- The unload process is executed for the SATA HDD in the unit in which the SENC of
(b) is installed. Process executed for each SATA HDD once per 3 hours.

(d) The process of (c) is executed immediately with the hardware failure of (b)
detected.
Cause Due to the microcode bug in the SENC reset process in the SENC blockade
Affected Products/Version Version : All microcode version
Fixed Product/Version Version : 0780/A
Category SATA
