What is an environmental engineer?

Well, an environmental engineer is a branch of the

many different types of engineering professions available to students that use the principles of
engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental
problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and
water and air pollution control. Some careers available to environmental engineers include
environmental engineering technicians, asbestos field technician, and geotechnical engineer.
Environmental engineers must have a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a related
field, like civil, chemical, or general engineering. Employers also value on the job experience.
So, cooperative engineering programs, which award college credits for job experience, are good
as well.
Companies that hire environmental engineers are AECOM Technology Corporation,
CH2M, HDR Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group, and Bechtel. On average, environmental engineers
make $86,800 annually. Environmental engineers work in a variety of settings because of the
stuff they have to do. When they are working with other engineers and urban and regional
planners, environmental engineers are probably in their offices. When they are carrying out
solutions through construction projects, they will be at construction sites. The employment of
environmental engineers is expected to grow by 8 percent from 2016 to 2026, roughly the same
as most other jobs. Some of the best colleges located in Virginia for aspiring environmental
engineers are Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, with 6 environmental programs
and the University of Virginia with 4 environmental programs. Most environmental engineers
work full time. Those who manage projects often work more than 40 hours a week to watch the
project’s progress, make sure that deadlines are met, and recommend solutions to problems when
needed. About 1 out of 5 worked more than 40 hours per week in 2016. There are currently over
51,000 environmental engineers in the job market and roughly one third of them are employed
by the government.
