Behavior Expectations

The learning community will have clearly defined parameters of acceptable behaviors
which will be established and taught. Behavior expectations will be adequately aligned with
the age/development level of each individual student. Students in my classroom are
accountable for their individual actions and self regulation. Students in Kindergarten are
expected to be able to actively participate in circle time or learning activities for 25-30
minutes. Classroom rules are established by involving students in the development
process. Teaching staff will encourage students to follow established rules and provide
guidance and instruction when required. Students will be taught to live according to
community values. I will accomplish this by creating routines, rules, and practice to assist
students in taking responsibility for themselves and others. Students in the classroom will
learn important lessons about how to be valuable community citizens. Teaching staff in the
classroom will view inappropriate behavior as an opportunity for collaborative problem
solving. Children who have developmental exceptionalities may have an IEP or behavioral
intervention to help with behavior expectations. Learning events and lesson plans will be
differentiated to assist with behavior expectations. Students will be encouraged to
collaborate and talk through the problem solving steps. Students may use STAR: stop'
think, act, and review to solve problems and self-regulate. Atalk-it center is available for
students if they need a quiet area to communicate, problem solve, and collaborate on
solutions.
