Dear Mr. Varner,

I am interested in applying for the middle school science position at your school. I graduated
from Arizona State University in 2021 with a degree in Educational Studies. I have been an
instructional aide in the Higley Unified School District, working in Social Studies, English, and
Science, and I also performed my student teaching at Cooley Middle School.

I have worked with students for over thirty years, both in the school and church setting. I have
developed lesson plans that help the students to learn the concept assigned for the given topic. I
have developed lessons that have appealed to the different types of learners, from those who
learn by rhythm, to those who learn kinetically and even have added music to help the students
understand the topic. I have developed a good rapport with the students in the classes where I
have worked and believe that I will be a great asset to your team at Cooley Middle School.

The motto for the Higley Unified School District is, “Grow—Learn—Lead”. This has been a
goal that I have sought to accomplish in my own life. Since I have worked with students for
many years, I understand that the methods I used when I first began working with students may
not be as effective today. With the advances in technology, I have needed to change how I have
taught and I have personally continued to grow and learn. I believe that I can also create an
atmosphere in the classroom where the students will be engaged in learning and will grow as
young people. I have gone back to school to obtain the education needed to teach in the public
school setting, and I will also inspire the students that learning is a lifelong process. I have not
only learned how to lead, but I have also worked at developing students to be leaders. In my
classroom, I want the students to know how to follow the directions of others but also to learn
how to lead. The leading can occur in a class discussion or even with a group project. I
understand that some students have more natural giftings to lead, but it is a characteristic that all
can learn and develop.

I have many years of teaching and developing students, and I would love to have the opportunity
to be a part of the Cooley Middle School team. I am an innovative and creative educator and yet
I also have the experience and patience to make a meaningful contribution. I am looking forward
to hearing from you to share how I can help Cooley Middle School continue to be a leader in the
Higley Unified School District.
