ISSN Reflection: DBQ Assignment

The purpose of this project was to create a DBQ essay, and practice our skills at writing

one to see where our skill level was at. When I received the assignment, I was generally

motivated to create a good DBQ essay, as I believed that was my strong point in the exams. My

goal was to get a 7 or a 6 on the scoring, and do the best that I could.

When our class got the instructional packet, he gave out a prompt, to which we all wrote

a first draft. My first draft was mostly good with rough edges. We rewrote them polished. I

added an outside reason, explained my points a bit better, and wrote it neater than the original.

Overall, I felt rather confident about it.

I learned not too much, other than for the outside evidence, you would have to go way

outside the time period in order for it to count. I learned that though I might not be perfect at

writing a DBQ essay, I still find it to be my strong point, and will for sure be good next time I

would write one. To improve, I would need to know a little more general information outside the

time period I would be writing about. If I could redo this assignment, I would want to create an

explicit outside information to add to the prompt.

` I investigated the world by using my knowledge of the world at the time of the American

Revolution. This supported my vision by giving me some information of why America would

ever have a revolution. I recognized and weighed perspectives by reading and analyzing the

properties of multiple documents, coming from multiple different views. I know it matters

today’s society because issues that were prominent in that society still reverberate today in

politics and social problems.
