My background and contact information
1

My name is Mahra Bahkeet Alaleeli. I am 21 years old. Student, Wife and mother. I am

studying Education for my sixth course (Year three), at Higher colleges of technology in

Sharjah. In addition, I have been in different schools for kindergarten between government

and privet schools. For this course, I will be in private school in Sharjah and I am interest to

be at AL Resalah International School of Science for the second time. According to my

experiences during the three years in teaching private and government schools, I found out

that, teaching is not something very hard and difficult. However, it needs some practicing,

patience and perseverance to achieve and improve the teaching skills that the teacher needs.

My teaching philosophy
2

I believe that, teaching is such an important and hard work because it works on other education

for the future. And good teacher must demonstrate many of the qualities that allow her to teach

others such as respect her students and the others, be patience and creativity. Good teacher

always should be good and a role model and a good example for the students.

Education is that continuous field without limits. Through my experiences in the three last

courses in teaching, I learned that learning is not just having a paper and pencil and keep

writing the information, However, it is about having the freedom to explore, discover and learn

independently. Providing the children with the materials can let them be more creative than

giving them activities that are with a quantity of materials that will help them to show us

their creativity. Piaget believes that “Learning is supported by action” (Pound, L. (2014).

Children are smart and creative, and the teacher should give them the opportunity to develop

their thoughts.

(Pound, L. (2014)

In my fifth and sixth course in education, I realized that the purpose of using the modern

method of teaching will enhance the skills of children such as, exploring, using their creativity

and imagination in learning and the respect of the children. According to Montessori: (Respect

for the child, the absorbent mind, sensitive periods, the prepared environment and auto

education) (Pound, L. (2014). Giving the children the love, respect and the opportunity to

explore and learn build the confidence and enhance their learning. In addition, I believe a

good teacher must also understand the kinds of motivations to support her students and achieve

her goals which will lead to enhance their learning levels.

The family is essentials part of the community which is mean it is impossible to be separate

from the community. Besides, family, community and the environment can affect the student’s

learning in the school either better or worst. For example, when the child has divorced parents

or a single family that influence the child learning, and it might make him more confident and

hard worker or either poor level and shaky personality between his friends.

According to the research:(The involvement of the family is essential to the educational

success of their children) (Bauman, 2017). So, the child when he has an encouraging family

that will enhance his educational achievements and develops his understanding of the world.

Parental involvement is known to be linked with improved behavior, regular attendance and
positive attitudes. In addition, being involved shows your child you care about his or
her education and schooling. That can make children appreciate the importance of education
and help them to understand that what they are doing has a purpose.

(Bauman, 2017)

Parental involvement provides a support for their children, which is particularly

important when they face challenges with friendships or in doing activities. It
also means you know where your child's education journey is going and are able
to be part of the highs and lows along the way.

children whose parents stay involved are more likely to have higher self-esteem,

be disciplined, have more self-motivation and that leads to achieve better

grades, and perfect relationships.

In the UAE, they agreed and supported “International Research on the Effects of Parental

Involvement”. UAE support the engagement of families in schools during events and

activities and they believes that: (Most children have two main types of educators in their

lives which are; their parents and their teachers. However, parents are the primary educators

and care givers until the child attends school) (Sumaiti, 2012).

That shows, the main influence on the children’s learning first are the parents and then school

and into higher education. The community plays also an essential role in building this

relationships between the families, schools and the children. Moreover, it depends on the

community and their support.

Every teacher should have her own expectations of her student’s achievements in her

classroom. My expectations are;

1- Student know and understand what is expected from them which gives them confidence and

develop their elf-esteem by explaining that for them.

2- Students take more responsibility for their behavior and learning.

3- Student gain a sense of safety and security.

4- Know and learn how importance to be organized in the classroom by applying the

instructions of the classroom.

5- Students learn by the “independent learning or students centered leaning strategy”.

Ake more responsibility

The Importance of setting expectations for the teachers can make the teaching

and learning in the classroom easier. It can help the teacher to control her

student’s behavior by letting them what is expecting from them and what their

behavior in the classroom should be like. In addition, at the end of the year, the

teacher will know if she achieved her goals of the students learning during the

year which shows her development and helps her to enhance their abilities in

learning.

Classroom management: It is providing variety of skills and techniques that teachers use to

keep students organized, focused, mindful, interested on tasks, and to maintain a classroom

environment that leads to student success and learning.

Each teacher should work in her classroom management which will impact on her teaching
skills and the students learning. My classroom management are;

1- Set classroom rules immediately and enforce them consistently.

“This helps to make the rules as a routine for the students to let them know that they are
important.”

2- Make the students feel responsible for their own learning environment.
“Apply clean up songs and teach them to clean after the activities or even before leaving the
classroom once the music is on. Besides, this will teach them to be organized and to avoid
hassle”.

3- Plan for transitions.

“During the school day, there will be several times throughout the day when children are

transitioning from one room or activity to another. It is important to have a plan for these

transitions such as line up and to sing a song while lining up”.

8

4- Give praise or good feedbacks.

“This tip will help the students to know the light things and will encourage them to be
involved during the lesson and participate always”.

5- Stay organized.
“Being organized and prepared before attending the classroom is essential step to avoid
issues that might happen during the classroom such as, forgetting your stuff or not being
prepared for the lessons so the children will be out of control”.

6- Be mindful of different learning paces and levels.

“Make sour that all the students understand the rules in the same way by asking them
questions such as; what did you understand from this rule? Why? So, that will help you to
know did that get the point or not”.

7- Scan the classroom.

“Develop your general awareness by keeping your eyes with the children even while
working or checking a student work to indicate the start of any misbehavior. Besides, that
will help in reducing misbehaving during the classroom”.

Ways to communicate with parents
My methods to encourage parents inside the classroom
9

Having methods for parental involvement will enhance the relationships between the teacher

and the parents. Also, the relationships between the parents and their children will be

developed.

My strategies and methods to involve the parents in the classroom and the school are two

parts; Inside and out the classroom or the school which are;

 Inside the classroom:

1- Parents meetings in the classroom.

2- School events such as, Mother day, National day and any importance events that

encouraged the parents to be in.

3- Parents visit, by specifying a day for parents to be in the classroom with their children

to observe them, participate in the activities and know the classroom teaching style which

will gives them great background about what does their children learn in the classroom.
10

 Out the classroom and school:

1- Using “WhatsApp” to communicate with parents, share the pictures and daily

updates.

2- Written letters that informs the parents about the weekly plan, important comments

on their child which should be written in positive language. Also, they should sign

when they read the letter and bring it back to the teacher to know that they got the

letter. This will be useful for parents who do not how to use the internet to chick daily

the updates. Moreover, the website or Email strategy can be also good way to

communicate with family and to be informed for the parents who are able to use the

internet for their children information.

(Sivertsen, 2018)
Suggestions for parents to support their children at home
11

Parents are the first supporter for their children at home. They can follow suggestions to help

and encourage their children to learn in many different ways such as:

1- Help their children if they faced any problem in finishing the homework.

2- Read stories and books for them at home to enhance their reading skills.

3- Practice in writing by providing them books that teach how to write letters for kids which

will help in improving their writing skills.

4- Use learning programs such as:

12

Digital literacy programs:

My assessment strategies
13

Assessment: Methods that are used by the educators to evaluate and measure the students
learning skills in different areas.

I use two types of assessments which are:

Formative assessments: “Observe student learning by providing ongoing feedback and

assessments that are used by the instructors to improve their learning” (University, 2018).

Summative assessments: “Evaluate the student learning at the end of a theme by comparing
it against some standard” (University, 2018).

Here are the examples of formative assessments and summative assessments that could be

used in kindergarten:
14
7

- Type of assessment: Formative assessment (Board and marker).

I chose “Board and marker” assessment to let them work independently and to assist their

understanding of the lesson by letting them draw by using the board and marker.

Description: I did “Board and marker” assessment by giving each student board and marker at the

end of the science lesson in the in the circle time. I showed them pictures of pretend animals, and I

asked them to draw the real one on their boards how it looked like and raised it when they finish to

show me what did they draw, and I checked for each student. They understood the difference

between the real and pretended animals and plants and that what their drawings showed.

I showed them picture of one pretend plant and animal and they
draw the real one on the board as formative assessment to assist
their understanding.

15

- Type of assessment: Formative assessment (Give me directions).

I chose “Give me directions” assessment to engage the students at the end of the lesson and to

assist their understanding and to have fun at the same time.

Description: I did “Give me directions” assessment and I chose one girl and one boy to do this

challenge. I wrote draw on the board example of; Animals, places and people. They wear the masks

and each one had a basket that contains pictures of animals, places and people. They picked the

pictures from the baskets and hanged them on the board in the right places. The rest of the class

were helping them to put the pictures in the right places by giving them directions such as; go right

and left. The boys group supported the boy and the girls group supported the girl. After that, we

discussed if they are right or not and the boys group won.

I did “Give me directions” activity as formative

assessment to assist their understanding “It is explained
in description paragraph”.
16

- Type of assessment: Formative assessment (Quiz book).

I chose “Quiz book” assessment to assist their ability in writing the word family “an” on their
quiz book.

Description: I did “Quiz book” assessment with by giving each student his quiz book independently

to writ the word family “an.” I wrote on the board: Can, Man, Fan and she kept it on the board for

10 seconds to let them review the words and then they wrote them on their quiz book, and we

correct for them.

Example of the quiz book.

17

Type of assessment: Formative assessment (Worksheet).

I chose “Worksheet” assessment to assist their knowledge in phonics and their ability in writing
the objects first letter.

Description: I did “Worksheet” assessment by giving each student the worksheet which is about

phonics to match the uppercase letters to the given lowercase letters and write the first letter of the

pictures. They had 15 minutes to work on the worksheet in their groups, and we were observing

them. Moreover, I collected the papers graded them and put the paper inside their files. When the

student has finished, I corrected his worksheet and put it inside his file as evidence for he parents.

This helps to observe and test the students to know his strengths and weakness in phonics.
