5. MATTERS ARISING

Land Invasion was discussed in the EXCO meeting. If you have any confrontation or threat
with land invasion contact Captain and she will point you in the right direction. Don’t
confront anyone, just contact Captain.

Graeme mentioned that if you want SAPS to run a number plate, you need to explain your
circumstances and the reason for the running of the plate. Roy asked if they were patrolling
and saw a suspicious vehicle could they still ask for a number plate to be run. Graeme
replied that as long as the circumstances and your whereabouts were known then they
could run the plates.
Bob said that there was no-one at the station who could run plates after hours. Graeme
said that it needed to be reported to the station. The station would contact the Hilton radio
station and they would run the plate and get back to the station. Bob asked if he could
have the number for Hilton. Graeme replied that only SAPS members could contact the
Hilton radio station.

PLEASE NOTE that the number printed for Margaret in connection with the CPI Whattsapp
group (in the previous minutes) was missing a digit the correct number is 083 703 8098
6. CRIME REPORT

Captain asked Graeme to do the Crime Report.

There is a slight increase in the crime rate in comparison to August 2017 and August 2018.
This year Nottingham Road is the area with the most crime. Last year in August Mount
West had the higher rate of crime.
Bob mentioned that with the cost of living you would expect the crime rate to increase.
Graeme mentioned that we do have a problem with unemployment and lately people are
stealing to put food on the table.

Bob mentioned that he had attended a Ratepayers meeting. At the meeting he heard how
many people’s alarms went off and they did not report it. Fritz said that he always advised
his clients to report the incident. Graeme said that people didn’t have to open a case but
just report the incident. The incident is recorded in the OB book, which gives the SAPS
members an idea of what is happening in the area and to be more alert in those areas.

Fritz mentioned that people should keep the serial numbers of their valuables, including
their garden equipment. This will help in the recovery of stolen items. Roy mentioned that
Micro Dots were available and you could micro dot all your equipment. Once you have
bought the Micro Dots you register your number on the SACAN website. The station has a
machine to read the Micro Dots and contact the owners of the stolen items.

Captain Naidoo caught a suspect in connection to remote jamming. Captain Naidoo

phoned Nottingham Road station and asked if there were any unsolved theft cases
involving cell phones. Nottingham Road had no cases open at the time. Captain Naidoo
phoned the numbers on the phone and managed to contact the daughter’s owner. If you
don’t report cases it makes it more difficult for SAPS to find the owners of stolen property.

Fritz mentioned that some people don’t know what’s happening in their own home, they
can’t find something and then report it stolen. Some time later they locate the item.

Roy mentioned that we are all responsible for ourselves. Some people are not aware of
what is available and aren’t aware of what is happening in the area.

Graeme mentioned that in a rural area a lot of opportunistic crime happens.

Fritz said that crime would have to be a lot higher before people would be up in arms and
attend meetings and get SAPS involved.

7. SECTOR POLICING

Sector 2 has quietened down, but the crime is still higher than Sector 1. Both Sectors are
fairly stable at the moment. There has been a bit of activity in Balgowan. Graeme asked
everyone to be vigilant and to report anything suspicious to SAPS.

David asked what had been happening in Balgowan. Graeme said there were a few cases
of theft, mainly along the railway line.

8. RURAL SAFETY

Bob asked if trapping and snaring had increased. Graeme mentioned that they did not
have any reported cases. Roy mentioned that the rangers in Fort Nottingham have had a
few cases. Graeme suggested that Roy bring the snares in to the station. The SAPS
members would know which areas they came from and what they look like.
9. NEW MATTERS

Don will be putting up the crosses on the R103. The project has been delayed, but will be
done. Even though Don has been in hospital, he will get his workers to help erect them.

Roy mentioned that the station was looking good. Captain told Roy that the station will be
getting a new sign. Moira thanked Roy and others involved in upgrading the look of the
station.

Graeme mentioned that the station had received calls about suspects that might be holding
at the station. He thinks that they are part of a crew and checking if their partners are in
custody. Graeme mentioned that if you are asked about suspects to refer them to the
station.

Fritz mentioned that the Black Corsa had been found in Joberg and has been sent to Mooi
River station. The suspects have been arrested and are linked to crime in Creighton and
Mooi River.

Roy thanked everyone for attending the meeting.
