Lesson Plan Format:

Teacher: Jonathan Kendall Grade Level: 3rd

I. Content and Standards:

Third Grade ELA.


1.4 CC.1.4.3.D Create an organizational structure that includes information grouped
and connected logically with a concluding sentence or section.

Prerequisites: State the understanding and knowledge that is necessary for this
lesson.

Students must be able to write sentences. Students must understand that there are
different reasons to write.

II. Instructional Objective: Indicate what is to be learned and what you will teach- this
must be a complete objective. Write this objective in terms of what an individual
student will do.

As a whole group, students will be introduced to the sections of a friendly letter. They
will later identify the sections of a friendly letter. Finally they will be asked to
produce an original friendly letter. Using questioning and
discussion techniques.

Instructional Procedures:

Communicating with Before: I will tell students that writing a letter or email is the most frequent type of
students.

IV. Assessment/Evaluation:

Students who correctly label all five sections will be scored proficient. Students who
correctly label three or four sections will be scored approaching proficiency. Students
who correctly label two sections will be scored limited proficiency. Students who
correctly label one or zero sections will be scored not proficient.
