Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide has the chemical formula CO and the molecular weight is 28.01 grams per mole. Its
chemical bond is covalent and indeed polar. In its Lewis Structure it has 2 bonds shared between the
two atoms. The molecular geometry is linear and has a hybridization of sp. Carbon monoxide is often
used for fuel gas mixtures and domestic heating purposes (Penney). This is often found in its gaseous
state with the same density as air which is 1.145 g/liter at 25° C (Penney). This gas has no odor nor taste
which makes it much more dangerous to humans since if you breathe too much of it you can die. That’s
why many homes are equipped with carbon monoxide detectors in order to prevent this from occurring.
