The Big Green Insulation Scheme is managed TVEC
TVEC was established in 1999 as joint initiative between West Oxfordshire District Council
and Cherwell District Council. Assessment is made on an individual basis.

Available for home-owners or tenants, who are on an income related benefit and is capped at
£4,000. Available for:

Give advice only on a wide range of energy efficiency incentives, from cheaper tariffs, to
money for replacing old fridges and freezers, to discounts on energy saving boilers and
insulation. The Energy Saving Trust funds Energy Efficiency Advice Centres and it’s website

The Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC) places an obligation on energy suppliers to
achieve energy efficiency improvements in UK households. The suppliers are required to
achieve energy saving targets in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, as part of the
UK's Climate Change Programme.
Eligibility:
• All private householders are eligible for EEC discounts. You do not have to be a
customer of the particular electricity or gas company in order to apply for that
company's EEC scheme.
• People in receipt of certain benefits, or aged 60 or over, may be eligible for a 100%
grant.
Energy suppliers with EEC targets offer grants and discounts on various energy efficiency
improvements, including:

Energysmart is CEN’s main delivery mechanism for domestic energy efficiency measures.
The scheme’s main aim is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through domestic energy
efficiency savings.
Working with London Energy we provide up to 60% discounts on loft and cavity wall
insulation as well as large discounts on condensing boilers and solar hot water systems
through special arrangements with installers, suppliers, and merchants.
The scheme works with Local Authority partners to promote discounted domestic energy
saving measures to residents. The scheme funds its own administration through a not-for-
profit model based on an installer lead fee, so there are no scheme management fees for
partners.

HIAs are not for profit, locally based organisations that assist vulnerable homeowners or
private sector tenants who are older, disabled or on low income to repair, improve, maintain
or adapt their home. By improving people's living conditions, HIAs enhance their quality of life
and enable them to remain in their home in greater comfort and security. They also offer a
wide range of services, providing advice to clients and have become involved with many local
authority schemes.

If you are on an:
• income based benefit
• Working Tax Credit or
• Child Tax Credit.
Then you will have the option of having an interest free loan, or free membership to HELPCo,
which would also entitle you to an interest free loan.

If you are not on an income based benefit, working tax credit or child tax credit, then you may
still be entitled to an interest free loan if you become a HELPCo member, or alternatively you
could be entitled to a low interest loan.

The DTI's Low carbon buildings programme will provide grants for microgeneration
technologies for householders. Microgeneration is the stand alone generation of low carbon
heat and/or electricity which for example, could be through solar photovoltaics.

Stream one - this applies to smaller projects for home owners, community groups and small
to medium enterprises among others.
There are a number of technologies that the programme will cover, these include:
• Solar photovoltaics
• Wind turbines
• Small hydro
• Solar thermal hot water
• Ground/water/air source heat pumps
• Bio-energy
• Renewable CHP
• MicroCHP (Combined heat and power)
• Fuel cells
There are a number of energy efficiency measures that you must undertake before you are
eligible to apply for a grant under the low carbon buildings programme. These measures will
ensure that you are minimising your energy requirements and are as follows:
a. A minimum of 270mm of loft insulation
b. Installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)
c. Using low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings
d. Installed basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a
programmer or timer.

PLEASE grants (Private Landlord Energy Award Scheme) are administered by HELPCo and
are available for landlords to improve energy efficiency in their properties. This includes
improvements and replacement of old boilers and heaters, as well as insulation measures.
PLEASE grants are available as a contribution towards the total cost of work on
• New central heating system or heating boiler
• Upgraded heating controls
• Cavity wall insulation and loft insulation
• Draughtproofing.

The Snug as a Bug home insulation scheme provides discounts of up to £650 (free for

Run by Solar for London as an incentive to install solar hot water systems. Thirteen London
boroughs are offering discounts of up to £750 pounds on installations.

South London Warm & Wise has been set up by a partnership of 5 South London Local
Authorities to help householders save on their fuel bills, save the environment, and keep
warm in cold weather.
We offer discounts on energy saving measures to help you save money and help save the
environment. On top of discounts negotiated with installers we are offering up to 65% off loft
and cavity wall insulation, and additional discounts on condensing boilers.

The Warm Front grant scheme provides grants for energy efficiency improvements for private
sector homeowners and tenants on income-based benefits. Grants are capped at £2500 per
household.
Measures available include:
• Loft insulation
• Draughtproofing
• Cavity wall insulation
• Hot water tank insulation
• Gas room heaters with thermostats
• Electric storage heaters with thermostats
• Converting a solid-fuel open fire to a glass-fronted fire
• Timer controls for electric space heaters and water heaters.
Eligibility: Any private sector homeowner or tenant who is in receipt of certain benefits (such
as Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, etc), and who:
• is over 60, or
• has children under 16, or
• is pregnant, or
• is disabled, or
• has a long-term illness

A typical solar water heating system might cost in the region of £2,500 to £4,000 and provides
typically about 50-60% of hot water requirements.
