I. COMPANY PROFILE
A. Vision/Mission

Vision
It is BPI’s vision to be the Philippines’ premier bank that builds on its heritage
of being the principal architect of the country’s financial inclusion landscape,
providing the most effective, efficient, and innovative solutions for its clients to best
manage their financial needs, while creating sustainable value and shared prosperity
for all stakeholders.

Mission
Since the bank’s founding 165 years ago, BPI has been inextricably linked
to the growth of the Philippine economy. Anchoring our institution on our four-fold
commitment to Clients, People, Shareholders, and Country, we aim to take
advantage of the country’s good macroeconomic fundamentals by carefully and
systematically overlaying scale over some of the best financial metrics in the
Philippine banking industry.

C. Nature of Business/Brief Description of the Company

Bank of the Philippine Island or Bangko ng Kapuluang Pilipinas is the first

bank in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia it is a commercial bank with an
expanded banking liscense. It is also the oldest bank in the Philippines still in
operations. It is country’s third largest bank in terms of assets, the country’s second
largest bank in terms of market capitalization and countries most profitable bank.
BPI’s Services include consumer banking and lending, asset management,
insurance, securities brokerage and distribution, foreign exchange, leasing, and
corporate and investment banking. BPI is divided in different subsidiaries; one of
these subsidiaries is the BPI Family Savings Bank.

BPI Family Savings Bank is a retail loan center and one of the Philippines’
largest providers of lending products to the retail market and the largest thrift bank.
BPIFB promotes easy access to its retail lending products through a dedicated
website, and supports its applications with credit scoring and processing systems
that enhance its responsiveness to clients. BPIFB has a significant presence in
home mortgages, small business loans (Ka-Negosyo), personal loans and most
especially in Auto Loans.

In BPIFB Auto Loan allows client to buy a desired four wheeler, and pay the
vehicle off in equated monthly installments for a set tenure instead of having to pay
the full price upfront. The terms of an auto loan depends in various factors. From the
application of client, reviewing of documents, processing and delivery of the vehicle
to the clients from dealership is being done by the Auto Loan Department.

D. Observation Strength/Weakness

BPI was one of the banks in the Philippine still existing for a long period of
time and it really proves a lot in banking industry. Its strengths have been contribute
a lot to it success such as being the third largest bank in terms of its assets,
country’s most profitable bank, has multi-channel distribution network comprising
600+ retail branches, increasing of foreign branches, encashment and deposit
checks without charge, has strong customer base with approx 2 million customers,
minimal complaints history, first to introduced the BEA and tight online account
security. As I become part of BPI Family Savings Bank as a trainee I also observed
some strengths of the company such as they have an outstanding customer service
and there is an equality between the employees and the bosses. They treat the
maintenance and guards of the company like how they treat their co employees.
The bond that they have is really exceptional and I think that is their greatest
weapon to the company’s success.

On the other hand BPI also have its weaknesses such as few advertisement,
increasing of their operating expenses by 7% last year it is because of having many
branches, absence of strategic group and limited access to international market.
Besides from this, I also observed some minimal weaknesses of the bank during my
stay at Auto Loan Department such as improper filing of customer’s accounts in their
filing cabinet and storage room, having limited office machine and limited manpower.

E. Recommendations

As a trainee I’ve experienced many things that helps me to boost and develop
my skills and personality and it is all because of BPIFB. This company has a very
outstanding customer service and their employees and also the bosses are very
kind. As a trainee I didn’t expect that they will treat us like a family, but they do. They
made us feel that we are part of BPIFB and not just a trainee. In this company I am
able to explore and learn new things that I can use when I am already working.
That’s why I strongly recommend this company to the students who are looking for a
company to conduct their on the job training.
II. SUMMARY OF JOBS DONE
III. SYNTHESIS

A. Expectation vs. Experience

At first I’m kind of scared because I thought that all the employees and bosses
are serious and scary but I was wrong because at BPIFB they treat us like a family,
they never made us feel that we are just OJT’s. During working hours I thought that
it is forbidden to talk to each other and not allowed to use some gadgets but it turned
out that it’s okay to do some chitchats and make use of cell phone as long as you
can finish the task given to you on time. I also thought that during working hours we
are separated with each other and can only see each other during break time but
because we are only assigned on one department we are all together almost all the
time. During our training I expect that the boss will be a little more distant to his/her
employees but I was wrong because at BPIFB no matter what position you have,
they have the equality and they show care and love with their co workers.

B. Subjects Related to the OJT

During our trainee days I have learned on how to make Insurance Certificate,
how to check Amortization schedule, and the right process when you are applying
for an auto loan. I applied my knowledge when it comes to the computation of Loan’s
Term, Monthly Amount, Amortization and Interest. I also check Promissory note with
chattel mortgage, account number and client’s mailers.

C. Reflection

As I’ve finished the 250 hours of on the job training at BPI Family Savings Bank I
learned a lot of things related to our course such as issuance of Insurance
Certificate, checking of amortization schedule etc. Aside from that I've realized that
when it comes to work, you need to have self confidence and trust in yourself in
order to survive on the daily basis of work. The employees at BPI Family Savings
Bank made me feel that I am one of them because they treat us like a family. I've
learned that in order to performed all the task given to you efficiently, it is really
important that you have a good relationship with your co workers. It is the most
important thing when you are already in the real world because once you are
working you will meet many different people with different perspective in life. No
matter how good or bad you do, there will always people who doesn’t know how to
appreciate you and your hard work and they will try to bring you down. I’m really
thankful that we are given the chance to do this kind of program because it really
helps us to boost our self esteem and be more motivated in our studies. We have
gain new learning’s, experience and met new people who became part of our life. I
am really thankful to BPIFB especially to the auto loan department for guiding us all
throughout our on the job training.
