What your programme
will look like
The academic year
Our Distance Learning MBA comprises
eight required modules, your choice of four
electives, and a consultancy project. There
are 30 teaching hours for each module, 40
hours of guided self-study and 30 hours of
independent self-study.
Modules
Included in your tuition fee is one optional
face-to-face residential module with teaching
over four to five days. You can decide when
to take this, and several locations will be
available. If you want, you can take a
second face-to-face residential module at
an additional cost (£945 for academic year
2017-2018).

Consultancy project
Your consultancy project will allow you to
apply what you have learned during your
MBA to a real management issue in practice,
usually from your own organisation. It
enables you to explore a business issue
thoroughly from multiple perspectives and
make practical recommendations drawing on
the theories, concepts, frameworks and tools
that you have learnt about during the course.
You can choose to explore an issue in your
own workplace, a competitor or another
sector, and engage in either quantitative or
qualitative research, or both.
At WBS, we can support you both in carrying
out the practical research that your chosen
project demands, and in exploring the
relevant literature regarding the theories,
concepts, tools and frameworks that
underpin your investigation. The output for
your degree from your consultancy project
will be a 15,000 word dissertation.

Flexibility
You have up to four years to complete
your MBA, but we recommend a period of

for work, family and friends is important so
take advantage of our flexibility; sometimes
taking longer to complete your studies is the
best way to achieve your long term aims. If
you extend your studies beyond three years,
there is an extension fee of £930 payable for
each year or part year of extension.
How we assess your work
Your learning will be assessed through a
variety of methods. There are online practice
tests, individual written assignments, group
work presentations and reports, and exams.
The two modules that are assessed by
examination will be undertaken on campus at
Warwick during each of the teaching weeks.
If you need to re-sit an exam and cannot
travel to campus, the University can arrange
for you to take it at an approved exam centre
nearer home.

Nicola’s research activity is focussed
in healthcare, conducting a number of
projects in the NHS in the areas of service
improvement, patient safety, patient
involvement, organisational learning,
knowledge brokerage and leadership.
Nicola has led a number of case studies and
evaluations across the NHS under the broad
spectrum of service improvement including
an Evaluation of Lean implementation across
the English NHS. Currently Nicola is the
Research Fellow for an NIHR HS & DR funded

Panos
Constantinides
Associate Professor of

Panos is an Associate Professor of
Information Systems. Previously, he
held positions at Lancaster University’s
Management School (LUMS), and the
Judge Business School at the University of
Cambridge, where he also earned his PhD.
His research is focused on the development
and governance of digital infrastructures
and platforms, including the associated
challenges of collective action. He is
particularly interested in research that seeks
to address business and social problems with
the possibilities generated by IT.
Tamara Friedrich

Tamara is an Associate Professor of
Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Warwick
Business School. She was previously an
Assistant Professor of Management at
Savannah State University where she co-
founded and served as the Director of the
Center for the Advancement of Creativity
and Entrepreneurship (ACE Center). Tamara’s
research covers how organisational leaders
may initiate, support, and sustain innovative
efforts through hiring, performance
management, and creating a climate for
creativity. She has also conducted research
on leadership in a collective context and
how leadership is influenced by the social
environment around them.
Ben Knight
Professor of Practice
Economic Modelling
& Forecasting group
Ben is a Professor of Practice in Economic
Modelling and Forecasting at WBS. He
specialises in the teaching of global business
and personnel economics on undergraduate,
MBA and executive programmes. He is the
author of many articles in professional
journals in economics, the economics of
business strategy and also employment
relations, and has written the book
Unemployment: An Economic Analysis.
He has recently carried out research on
the use of macroeconometric models in
corporate strategy and is currently working
on a study of economic ‘cost vulnerability’
and firm performance.
Nick Lee
Professor
of Marketing

Prior to joining WBS in 2016, Nick was
Professor of Sales and Management Science
at Loughborough University, and Professor
of Marketing and Organisational Research at
Aston Business School. Nick’s work connects
theories from social psychology, cognitive
neuroscience, economics, and philosophy,
to advanced measurement and modelling
methods, in order to solve important
problems in sales management, professional
selling, organisational psychology, social
science research methodology, philosophy of
science, and business ethics.
Camilla Maclean

Camilla is a Senior Teaching fellow at WBS.
Prior to higher education, she spent many
years in public health and in managing
community and youth development projects
in Southern Africa, Central and South
America and enjoyed the juncture between
theory and practice. Her current research
lies in Corporate Social Responsibility,
ethics, Southern Africa, MNCs, mining
and minerals development, corporate
community investment and community
health, governance, decision-making, and
International Development.
Frances O’Brien
Associate Professor of

Sciences group
Frances has experience in the development
and use of frameworks, modelling and
analytical approaches to supporting
organisational strategic development. In
particular, scenario planning for assessing
future uncertainty and visioning approaches
for developing organisational direction. Her
consultancy experience includes working
with senior management teams in education,
recruitment and not-for-profit sectors.
Frances is a board member and chair of the
events committee for the UK Operational
Research Society.
Pinar Ozcan
Associate Professor

Pinar is Associate Professor of Strategic
Management at Warwick Business School.
She specialises in strategy, entrepreneurship,
and the emergence of new technology
markets. She completed her PhD at the
Stanford Technology Ventures Program at
the Stanford University Management Science
and Engineering Department. Pinar’s work
experience includes management consulting
at Siemens Corporation in Munich, Germany,
and strategy consulting with technology
ventures and venture capital firms in the
Silicon Valley.
Sandra Pereira
Teaching Fellow

Sandra has been in academia for the best
part of the last 20 years. Side by side with
the academic path, Sandra worked in the
corporate sector for more than 10 years, as
Head of HR and COO for an international
network, having also played relevant roles in
Institutional Communication. Sandra holds
a PhD from Warwick Business School and a
Masters on Socio-Organisational Systems
of the Economic Activity at Universidade
Tecnica de Lisboa, having previously
completed a degree in Management at
Portuguese Catholic University.
Dimitrios
Spyridonidis

Dimitrios is an Associate Professor of
Leadership. Prior to joining Warwick
Business School, Dimitrios was at Imperial
College London and Henley Business School
where he taught leadership and leadership
development around the globe including the
UK, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, South Africa,
Malaysia and Hong Kong. Dimitrios’ research
and teaching focuses on new forms and
practices of leadership with a strong emphasis
on organisational change and innovation.

About you
At WBS, we are looking for true leaders who
embrace challenges, demonstrate creative

themselves. You should know your strengths
and weaknesses, and be capable of, or have
the potential to enthuse and encourage
others. You will be inquisitive, thoughtful
and decisive.
Experience You must have at least
four years’ managerial work experience.
We are seeking evidence of consistent
progression including increased people
management, budgetary and/or project
management responsibilities.
Academic record You must have an upper
second class honours at undergraduate
level from a UK university or the equivalent
from an overseas university. However, we
also welcome applications from candidates
who do not have the academic qualifications
but are exceptional, with a proven ability
to achieve.
English Language
All of our programmes are delivered in English
so, if English is not your first language, you
have not graduated from an English speaking
university or worked in an English speaking
environment for at least two years you must
demonstrate a minimum overall standard in
the following recognised tests of English. The
certificate will be required as evidence.
