Dear Mr. Heimlich:

This is in response to your letter of July 20, 2013, regarding several matters concerning your
Freedom of Information (FOIA) request #13-00796.

You expressed concern thai our description of your request, as provided in our July 18, 2013,
letter to you, may be incorrect. Please be assured thai your request as written was provided to
program staff for a search for responsive records. Our Idler of July 18, 2013, contained only an
abbreviated description of your request. Based on the letters you provided, we understand the
original complaint at the heart of the review alleged that the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) may have improperly approved Douglas Brown's ouiside activities with Save-
A-Lifc Foundalion, and that Mr. Browne may have exceeded the scope of approval he received
from CDC management. Thus, we interpreted your FOIA request as seeking records regarding
the review of the allegations about Mr. Brown's ouiside activities, and CDC's approval of ihe
same. If we have misinterpreted your request and the letters you provided, please let us know.

You also asked about your request that any fees be waived. We will address your request for ;\
fee waiver when we ascertain from program staff that the cost of the billabie FOIA services will
exceed the Agency's threshold.

Based on the additional information supplied in your July 20. 2013, letter, we have re-evaluated
your fee category and rcclassified you as a Category II requester (news media).

In addition, you inquired about the estimated completion date of your FOIA request. At this lime,
program officials are slill conducting a search for records responsive to your request. Processing
lime depends on ihe complexity and volume of your request, as well as the requests preceding
yours in the processing queue. Because we do not know the volume or complexity of records
responsive to your request, we are unable to provide you with a completion date at this time.
