Art/sculpture Some of the homes in the residential neighborhood in our CT had animal sculptures and
religious statues in their front yards. Just outside of our CT, there were ~2 walls with
artistic murals in vibrant colors.
The individuals that were hanging out at La Madera park dressed appropriately for the
warm Tucson weather. The clothing consisted of shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, hats, and tennis

American culture.

Services Provided: This is a full-service hospital and it is the only Level I trauma center in
Southern Arizona, so they can care for the most critically injured patients. They provide
routine hospital services; such as, medical-surgical care and acute care. In addition, they
provide comprehensive heart and cancer care, advanced neuroscience techniques, and a
multi-organ transplant program. Their other highly ranked specialty care areas include
Pulmonology, Geriatrics, and Gynecology.

Social service There were not any agencies in our census tract devoted specifically to social services.

such as health assessments for the elderly community. The churches located just outside of
our CT offer social services including divorce counseling. Additionally, CODAC which is
located 1.3 miles west of our CT offers social services for those suffering from substance
abuse and mental health disorders.
Food bank/pantry There is not a food bank or food pantry located within our CT, however Community Food
Bank-Caridad is located 3.9 miles south west of our CT.
Additionally, the Northminster Presbyterian Church located just outside of our CT offers a
community pantry to the homeless population (see “Places of Worship” for address).

preschool centers located just outside of it.

Identify whether Services Provided: This is a public school for Kindergarten through Fifth graders. They
public, private, or are currently part of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant and they offer a
charter school variety of before and after school programs. Some of these programs include homework
help, tutoring in math and reading, art classes, sports, as well as quilting and gardening.
Cragin is also an Opening Minds through the Arts Gold school, so they use an arts-
integrated curriculum, to advance learning. Their other major areas of focus include
problem solving, ability to function sensitively and successfully in a complex, and
communication. This school is located right across the street from our census tract, so it is
very convenient for children who live in the surrounding residential neighborhoods.

Services Provided: This is a public school for Sixth through Eighth graders. They
prioritize building relationships between students and faculty to promote a healthy learning
environment. They also promote diversity with students from varying backgrounds and
educational levels. They focus on working to empower the students to become productive
citizens who can make meaningful contributions to the community.

Services Provided: This public high school is a magnet school offering a private pilot
strand, an electronics strand, and an allied health program strand. These magnet programs
allow students from all over the district to apply. Catalina High School promotes a model
of collective accountability and open communication. They encourage parent and
community involvement to help support the goals of the school and the surrounding
community. They work to create an innovative learning environment that can meet the

functional movement and they help to correct posture and asymmetries. They mostly target
the population of those between the ages of 40 to 65 years of age.

Neighborhood La Madera neighborhood and Winterhaven had neighborhood watch signs. The signs said,

While walking around La Madera park, we saw several empty beer cans and alcohol

Very few cars were parked on the street in our census tract. Most cars were parked in their

There were not any sidewalks in the neighborhoods in our census tract. However, on the

busier streets (Fort Lowell Rd, Country Club Rd, and Tucson Blvd) there were sidewalks
present.
The roads in our census tract were rough with cracks and potholes throughout. The roads
within the neighborhood were not as rough as the major roads (Tucson Blvd, Fort Lowell
Street conditions
Rd, Country Club Rd, and Prince Rd) due to less traffic within the residential
neighborhood.
Many of the stop signs located in our census tract were not visible due to overgrown trees
covering the signs, making it a road hazard. Also, some of the roads were undergoing

construction, making it narrow and hard for cars to pass along the road, creating a road
hazard.
Night lighting There were no street lights present in the neighborhoods within our census tract. However,
