PILING NOTES

1. ALL PILES ARE TO BE DESIGNED BY


THE PILING CONTRACTOR FOR THE
MOST ONEROUS COMBINATION OF
VERTICAL & LATERAL LOADS
INDICATED ON THIS DRAWING. IT HAS
BEEN ASSUMED THAT A CONTINUOUS
FLIGHT AUGERED SYSTEM WILL BE
USED.

2. HORIZONTAL LOADS ON EACH PILE


MAY BE APPLIED IN ANY DIRECTION.
A HORIZONTAL LOADS ARE ASSUMED
100 TO ACT 75mm ABOVE PILE CUT OFF
LEVEL.

3. ALL PILES ARE TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF


6 No MILD STEEL REINFORCING BARS
FOR THE UPPER 10m OF PILE.

4. THE PILE DESIGN SHOULD ALLOW FOR


THE FOLLOWING POINTS REGARDING
LEVELS:

- THE LEVELS OF PILING PLATFORM;


WHETHER A REDUCED OR ELEVATED
LEVEL.
- THE AMOUNT OF "CUT OFF" TO FORM
PILE CAPS AND GROUND BEAMS.

5. SETTING-OUT DIMENSIONS SHOWN


GENERALLY ARE BASED ON A
MINIMUM PILE SPACING OF 3 x DIA. A
PILE DIAMETER OF 1200 or 600 HAS
BEEN ASSUMED. THE CONTRACTOR
MAY PROPOSE ALTERNATIVE PILE
DIAMETERS BUT SHOULD TAKE THE
SETTING-OUT SHOWN INTO ACCOUNT.

6. THE CONTRACTOR IS TO PROVIDE A


METHOD STATEMENT FOR THE
INSTALLATION OF PILES WHICH
INCLUDES THE PROPOSED SEQUENCE
OF CONSTRUCTION AND DETAILS OF
HOW MANY PILES ARE TO BE CUT
DOWN AND "HEADS" REMOVED FROM
SITE.

7. A FACTOR OF SAFETY OF 3 MUST BE


ADOPTED IN THE DESIGN OF THE
BEARING PILES FOR COMPRESSIVE
AND TENSION LOADS.
THE CONTRACTOR MAY CHOOSE TO
INSTALL A PRELIMINARY TEST PILE
FOR USE IN HIS DESIGN IF A MORE
ECONOMIC F.O.S CAN BE ACHIEVED.

8. THE CONTRACTORS ATTENTION IS


DRAWN TO CLAUSE 760 OF THE
ENGINEERS SPECIFICATION
REFERRING TO INTEGRITY TESTING
OF PILES.

9. PILING CONTRACTOR TO ADVISE ON


PILING MAT THICKNESS REQUIRED IN
HIS TENDER TO REFLECT HIS PLANT
REQUIREMENTS CONSIDERING THE
GROUND CONDITIONS ON SITE.
