INTRODUCTION
Hyundai may be introducing its version and MB Sprinter will add a 4×4 van
in addition to fully moving its production of the Sprinter to the US.
This van comparison will satisfy the RV conversion enthusiasts, who focus
on cargo floor length, interior height and weight rating requirements.
Ford Transit
Ram ProMaster
Nissan NV
Chevy Express
The cargo vans with a standard roof are available in ½ ton, ¾ ton and 1
ton versions. With an eye on RV conversions, the models are sorted by
cargo floor length. As space is a limited commodity in an RV, choice is
heavily dependent on cargo floor length and floor-to-roof height. The
Mercedes Benz Sprinter van is excluded, as it only comes with an
extended roof line.

CONCLUSION
Finally, more European style cargo vans have arrived on the American
market, with several models to choose from and with the prospect of
new brands to enter the market place soon.
A few years ago Nissan entered the commercial van market, that is
dominated by American brands. Even as they only could expect small sale
numbers, Nissan has succeeded to open up the market with a successful
introduction of the quirky NV series.
The BIG entry this year, is the new Ford Transit. With its
long history in Europe, Ford has introduced this van
with many new features and changes, in an effort to
adapt it to the American market. As a replacement for
the aging Econoline series, it is already grabbing the largest market share
amongst its competitors.
A growing demand for trucks and vans, has led to the introduction of the
Ram ProMaster in September 2013, and while it has some unique
features, like FWD and lower payload floor, it still struggles in sales. Only
the Chevy Express remains largely unchanged. Despite falling sales, its use
as a workvan is still popular with small businesses. With use as an RV
conversion, it finally may fall out of grace!
The roof is fairly flat and will allow for easy installation
of one or more exhaust fans. The wheel housings are
much reduced in size and the integrated fuel tank
filling opening at the driver’s side door and the
integrated car jack storage on the other side are great
design features.
Warning!
After you have chosen your model, always verify the specific
ratings, size and capabilities of that cargo van with its
manufacturer, as the above information is for research only.
