The digestive system

The digestive system consists of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and
accessory organs. The GIT is an open tube with two openings at the start
and the end. It starts with the mouth and continues to the pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Accessory
organs in the digestive system include the teeth, tongue, and excretion
glands. Many types of glands participate in digestion, including the
salivary glands, pancreas, liver, and glands built in the mucosal layer of
the GIT. The intestines are also sometimes called the bowel or the gut.
