EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

En Route Trends is a business that is located inside the campus of De La Salle Araneta University. En
Route Trends is a boutique gift and souvenir shop, it is a business study that would focus on both
craftmanship and retail technology trends, it is a whole new level of imaginative business venture, with
the aim to enhance proponent’s entrepreneurial skills whilst enabling them to maximize their artistic
potential in attaining profitability.

En Route Trends is a partnership of Nigh College – Marketing Management students. The owner has
acquired Php 30,000.00 loan from De La Salle Araneta University as a start-up capital. The initial capital
will be used for the store mobilization while we encourage every partner to put up their own business
line and store product display.

En Route Trends will start with 20 days inventory on hand for their apparel and accessories, as this is the
main revenue generator and most of the ventures non-cash asset will reflect on its inventories. The
purpose of the study is to secure Php 140,000.00 investments on its operation to maintain supplemental
financing in preparation to commencing a bigger venture.

Our main aim in carrying out this feasibility study is to provide opportunities for the proponents to
enhance their entrepreneurial skills by enabling them to maximize their artistic potential whilst
equipping them of the necessary technological tools. To serve and sell to the customers the best quality
product at an affordable price. En Route Trends target customers are the students, professors, and
employees of De La Salle Araneta University.

We conclude that improving the positive nature of perceptions of the public could lead to greater
success within the retail industry, since ‘buying behavior’ and ‘decision making’ are highly
dependent on person's perception and preferences. The effectivity of this study attributed to the
wholistic approach in providing quality products and services that would cater to the preferences
of the customers within the University. The partners have considered assessments on the
attributes required by our customer based; buying preferences not only of the students, but also
of the faculty and employees of the University has been considered and fulfilled during the store
operation.
Admittedly, the proponents have not conducted exhaustive study on the students’ market and its
customer based. The results have reflected on the business outcome on the later part of the
operations. Another area of improvement of this study is proper market analysis of the customer
based on the lifestyle activities, which can be a major factor in buying tendencies.
The result of the study states that general merchandizing business can be highly profitable given
that customer shopping orientation can be fulfilled. Impulse buying tendency, store layout and
promotion signage can significantly impact the profitability of the business. The findings imply
that young consumers tend to make purchases on impulse when exposed to the product
provocations.
Therefore, based on the findings, extensive research on the product and in-depth market analysis
would have led to a positive business outcome. Consumers buying behavior is not entirely
dependent on what the product can offer or how they serve the customers, but also for what they
Mean to the customers, specially most of the customer are students who has high emotional
reliance; consumers search for products, which have images compatible to their perceptions of
self or individuality. Further, the proponent must consider products in line with the current
trends which reflect the younger generation.

Recommendation
Based on the conclusions presented, these recommendations are given.

 A larger population of consumer may have had a positive impact on the business
operation

 Apart from the personal factor, there are other factors such as cultural factors, social
factors, and psychological factors to be considered in determining what affects
student’s consumer behavior.

 Higher cap on item markup should also be considered in attaining higher income.

 We Highly recommend that putting a concept store is possible in business.


I. INTRODUCTION

En Route Trends is a concept store manage by individual business partners, a business study

that would focus on both craftmanship and retail technology trends, the proponents would like

capitalized on their artistic ability and creativity backed with the technological advancement,

such as Internet of Things (IoT), Search Engine Optimization (SEO) etc., in improving retail

efficiency and delivering better experience.

In today’s strenuous retail market where sales are harder to come by, it is highly important to

employ sound and effective merchandise planning. The proponents would not only like to see

how successful the combination of their workmanship and technology progression is; as part of

this study the proponents would like to deploy a wholistic approach in putting up a venture;

that would include analyzing the market potential, competitive environment, industry

structure, financial analysis, survey analysis and many others to arrive in strategic projection of

product, price, location and logistics.

En Route Trends is the entrepreneur’s whole journey to imaginative business venture; Certain

with proponents both backgrounds and experiences, braced with drive and perseverance, the

proponents not only feel qualified but also confident that they have the right aptitude in

attaining business success.

Our main aim in carrying out this feasibility study is to provide opportunities for the proponents

to enhance their entrepreneurial skills by enabling them to maximize their artistic potential

whilst equipping them of the necessary technological tools. The amalgamation of artistry and

technological proficiency with the basic business principles of maximizing profit and/or Return

of Investment (ROI) while providing service will ensure winning investment.


II. PROJECT SUMMARY

En Route Trends are French and English combination words means:

En Route: In the Journey

Cambridge Dictionary: during the course of a journey; on the way or from somewhere

Trends: New Developments

Trend means what's hip or popular at a certain point in time. While a trend usually

refers to a certain style in fashion or entertainment.

B. Business Location:

En Route Trends will be located inside the campus of De La Salle Araneta University

where the population consist of the following:

The location is strategic as we cater to the overall population of the University, by

locating close proximity to the daily action of buying and selling within the school

campus, En Route trends will enjoy the guided traffic that will eventually lead to build its

own customer base.


C. Brief Description of the Business

De La Salle Araneta University will be conducting an Entrepreneurial Study with the aim

to teach the approach entrepreneurs use in identifying opportunity and creating new

ventures; identifying analytic skills needed to practice this approach; and the

background knowledge and managerial skills that are necessary for dealing with the

recurring issues involved in starting, growing, harnessing the value of new ventures.
To take part in this event the Night College students have come up with their ideas of a

business venture; En Route Trends is a boutique gift and souvenir shop, it is a business

study that would focus on both craftmanship and retail technology trends, it is a whole

new level of imaginative business venture, with the aim to enhance proponent’s

entrepreneurial skills whilst enabling them to maximize their artistic potential in

attaining profitability.

III. Management and Personnel Components

A. Proponents:

The management of En Route Trends is made of interim management team from various

industries, public and private sectors, who will monitor the growth of the store, as well as

making development and entrepreneurial maneuvers, necessary in achieving profitability.

En Route Trends is a partnership form of business ownership which will handle all the aspect of

the business, to business management, administrations and operations. The store manager will

be the over all in charged for the day-to-day operation of the business, ensures and is

accountable for profitability of the store by growing sales and controlling costs of goods,

inventory levels, labor, supplies and expenses etc.


For its present operations, there will be a supervisor to work hand in hand with the manager in

maintaining store profitability and two hired service staffs and a cashier to run the minor

business operation on the daily basis. The proponents will assign each of the members to man

the operations and maintain the expenses at a minimum cost possible.

B. Management

1. Organization Structure – The organizational structure will be relatively dynamic as most of

the proponents come from different industries with different technical expertise. The

proponents will be involved in planning, organizing, controlling and operating the business.

2. Personnel Component

A. Pre-operating period, duties and responsibilities

a.1. President: Obtains profit contribution by managing staff; establishing and accomplishing

business objectives. It is also responsible for providing strategic leadership for the store by

working with the members, staffs and business partners to establish long-range goals,

strategies, plans and policies. Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the store

fiscal function and performance.

a.2. General Manager (The Partners) Job Responsibilities: Auditing and monitor store

operations every day. The General Manager Job description requires an ability to efficiently

multi-task, a capability to confidently delegate work to others, excellent customer service skills,

and strong leadership qualities.

a.3. Shift Manager: Ensures and is accountable for profitability of the store by growing sales

and controlling costs of goods, inventory levels, labour, supplies and expenses. It is a middle

management position, with the responsibility of overseeing a number of subordinate

employees during a certain period of time.

a.3. Business Partner’s: Is a commercial entity with which another commercial entity has some

form of alliance. This relationship may be a contractual, alternatively, it may be a very loose

agreement designed largely and it can be a supplier and a channel intermediary.

a.4 Cashier responsible for the daily sales and profit recording of the store.

a.5 Sales Staff: Responsible for the preparation of the shop and maintaining the cleanliness of

the store. Responsible for taking care of the customer’s needs, order transaction and loyalty

programs.
B. Operating Period

PRESIDENT

President Job Duties:

 Providing strong leadership for the store by working with the members and executives

to establish short and long-term goals, plans and strategies. The President responsible

for presiding over the entire workforce and will manage budgets and make sure

resources are allocated properly.

 Increases management's effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training,

coaching, counselling, and disciplining managers; communicating values, strategies, and

objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results;

developing incentives; developing a climate for offering information and opinions;

General Manager Job Duties:

technical services policies and practices; coordinating actions with corporate staff.

SHIFT MANAGER

1. Ensures and is accountable for profitability of the store by growing sales and controlling

costs of goods, inventory levels, labor, supplies and expenses.

2. Oversees all cash and media management functions. Able to perform all POS duties,

front and back of house functions including opening and closing procedures,

coordinating with the Corporate Office as necessary.

3. Ensures that all team members are committed to and demonstrate our Guiding

Principles and House Rules.

4. Pro-active in solving customer problems and satisfying customers in various situations.

5. Ensures that all team members provide customers with efficient, friendly, superior

service on a consistent basis.

6. Assesses and provides adequate staffing to provide efficient and friendly, superior

service.

7. Maintains high cleanliness standards consistently throughout the store in the areas of

store appearance, merchandise and equipment.

Education and Experience

 Graduate of any 4-year course

 At least 1-5 years as a manager in the General Merchandising Company.

 Expertise in people management.

 Should be willing to undergo periodic management training to stay abreast of the latest

company policies and managerial strategies.


Position Description

A shift manager reports to an upper level manager, but oversees lower level staff as well,

making sure that all employees show up for work, all assigned tasks are completed, customers

are happy, and all business runs smoothly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Shift Manager

 Assigns tasks to employees on shift.

 Calls in replacements in the event of an employee call-in or no-show.

 Addresses and resolves customer inquiries and complaints.

 Engages with customers to ensure they are satisfied with service and products offered.

 Promotes specials, sales, and new products or services when relevant.

 Manages cash intake, counting out registers at regular intervals and tabulating profit at

the end of the shift.

 Reports losses, employee behavioral issues, serious customer complaints, and other

significant issues to upper level management.

 Signs for deliveries.

 Distributes payroll checks.

 Adheres to and enforces company policies and guidelines.

 Enforces the proper disciplinary measures when subordinate employees fail to adhere

to company policy.

C. Development of Policy Manuals and Procedures

EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE AND SANCTIONS

HIRING

When hiring new employees, En Route Trends strives to recruit and select the best qualified

applicants for every role on the basis of qualifications, experience, abilities, and other

characteristics needed to competently perform each specific job assignment. We strive to hire

people that will excel in our team environment.

En Route Trends will as well conduct a character investigation to every candidates, background

checks may be made on all employment candidates prior to hiring. The extensiveness of the

background check will be dependent on the position being applied for, but can include financial

background, felony background, employment background, etc.


EMPLOYMENT CATEGORIES

Based on the conditions of employment, employees of Hugo’s fall into the following categories:

• Full-Time employees

• Part-Time employees

• Temporary employees

FULL-TIME

A full-time employee is one who works a regular schedule of 40 or more hours per week.

PART-TIME

A part-time employee is one who works a regular schedule of less than 40 hours per week.

TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES

A temporary employee is hired for a specified project or time frame and may work an irregular

schedule. A temporary employee in a non-exempt position is paid by the hour while a

temporary employee in an exempt position is paid according to the terms of hire for that

individual. Temporary employees do not receive any additional compensation or benefits

provided by the Company.

WORK HOURS

The standard work schedule for full-time, regular employees is 5 days per week, 8 hours per

day, 40 hours per week. The normal workday may vary according to each shop’s needs. Start

and end of day hours may vary depending upon the business needs.
PAYROLL

Company’s payroll administration policy is intended to comply with the standard salary pay

requirements of the Department of Labor and Employment and shall be construed in

accordance with their Act. Employees are encouraged to direct any questions concerning

payroll administration or their salary pay to Management so that any inadvertent error can be

corrected.

TIMEKEEPING REQUIREMENTS

All non-exempt employees are required to punch in and out for payroll purposes. All vacation

and/or leave requests must be submitted in writing, indicating who will be covering the shift(s),

and are subject to management approval.

Non-exempt employees must record their work time by punching in to the timekeeping system

at the start and at the end of each work period, including before and after the meal break. Non-

exempt employees also must record their time whenever they leave the building for any reason

other than the business.

Exempt employees are required to record time worked for allocation purposes. Timesheets for

exempt employees are not used for payroll calculation. Exempt employees are not required to

note meal or other types of breaks in the workday.

All time sheets must be submitted to the employee’s immediate supervisor for approval, in

accord with Company deadlines.


PAYMENT OF WAGES

Employees are paid on a weekly basis, with payment being made every other Tuesday. If a

regular payday falls on a day the business is closed, employees will be paid on the Monday prior

to the scheduled pay date.

Paychecks will be available by 2:00 p.m. on the pay date. If you observe an error on your check,

please report it immediately to Management.

A. POLICY STATEMENTS

EN ROUTE TRENDS shall exercise its right to discipline or dismiss its employees for any

offense or serious infraction of any regulation or prevailing law not enumerated as may

be warranted by the circumstances of each case.

Substantial evidence which a reasonable mind might accept as adequate to justify a

conclusion is sufficient ground for the imposition of the corresponding penalty.

B. SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

On the job and within EN ROUTE TRENDS, all employees are expected to show

acceptable behavior. Disciplinary action shall be imposed on an employee who commits

an offense or infraction to discourage the recurrence of the offenses as well as prevent

new ones from occurring.

In cases involving damage to property, Management shall have the prerogative of

penalizing the offender in accordance with Table of Offenses and Penalties in this

handbook and/or requiring him/her to pay for the property damaged. Imposition of any

of the penalties prescribed in this handbook shall be without prejudice to any civil or

criminal action that EN ROUTE TRENDS may institute against the offender.
An employee who is convicted of a crime against persons or property, or a crime

involving moral turpitude regardless of when or where committed shall be summarily

dismissed after notice, and after being given an opportunity to explain his side of the

case.

C. TYPES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

The types of disciplinary actions, according to the severity of an offense are:

COUNSELING issued to an erring employee for extended guidance.

WRITTEN WARNING is a warning memorandum issued to an erring employee who is found

guilty of a minor offense.

SUSPENSION is imposed when an employee is directed not to report for work without any pay

for certain number of days as herein defined.

DISMISSAL is an honourable separation from the company for just causes under the law. A

dismissed employee loses all company benefits and privileges due him, including his right to

separation pay.

GENERATION X (age 42-53, born 1965 to 1976)

 Born between 1965 and 1980, they are the “latch-key kids” who grew up street-smart

but isolated, often with divorced or career-driven parents. Sloane Rangers, Yuppies,

they are seen as the renaissance of entrepreneurship. Most remember being in school

without computers and then after, the introduction of computers in middle school or

high school.
More interested in philosophizing than settling with a long-term career and family, they

tend to commit to self and average 7 career changes in their lifetime, unlike earlier

generations. Society and thus individuals are envisioned as disposable. Late to marry

(after cohabitation) and quick to divorce…many single parents.

 Gen Xers are often called the MTV Generation. They experienced the emergence of

music videos, new wave music, electronic, glam rock, heavy metal, punk, grunge and hip

hop. It is the Nirvana, U2, Madonna, torn jeans, Friends, Beverly Hills 90210, PC

generation.

 They are into labels and brand names. They want what they want and want it now, but

struggle to buy, and most are deeply in bank and credit card debt. With a high level of

Selling Price: En Route Trends will be encouraging impulse buying, so it is important to

maintain flexible pricing strategy. Although our product line offers high-end personalized

stylish products our pricing structure will be as affordable as other novelty retailers.

Our pricing structure will be based on competitive parity guidelines where we will set a margin

not exceeding to 70% on all our retails merchandise. We will offer 10% discount related to our

promotional strategy, will be offered during the span of 20 days period.

C. Distribution and Cost of Transportation

Our products will be available inside the campus of De La Salle Araneta University. However, in

maximizing profitability the proponents would like to utilize the potential of electronic

commerce (eCommerce) to make our products available online. We will receive other orders

via a courier service.
