Self Learning Modules Training Programme

Self Learning Modules of Scout Wing and Guide Wing (Basic Courses) for Unit Leaders were held at the
District Office of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Chembur on October 13, 2017 from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
It was an informal course to provide introduction of Scouting and its Fundamentals etc and was conducted
by scout masters, Mr. Santosh and Mr. Ashish. The training programme were attended by Juni Prabha,
Ashish Kumar, Betsy Jaison from Padua High School.

The following points were discussed during the training session.

1. The Scout and Guide Movement
Scouting and Guiding is a non-religious, non-political, non-sectarian, secular and uniformed youth movement.
2. Birth of the Movement
The Founder of our Movement, Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell, was a Captain of the Royal
British Army and was assigned the task of fighting the tribal’s in the jungles of South Africa in 1887.
He later formed Scouting based the four pillars namely:
a) Character & intelligence
b) Handicraft & Skill
c) Health & Hygiene
d) Service
3. Purpose of the Movement
The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their
full physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible
citizens and as members of the local, national and international communities.
