BLOOD COMPATIBILITY

Aim : To study the compatibility of blood group in blood donation

Problem statement : Which donor’s blood group is/are compatible with the recipient’s blood
group?

Materials and apparatus : Red, white, pink coloured solution, distilled water, test tube, syringe,
beaker, test tube rack

Procedure :

1. Prepare 4 test tubes and label 1, 2, 3 and 4

2. Pour 5 ml of red coloured solution (blood group A) in each test tubes.

3. Put 5 ml of the following solution into respective test tube by using a syringe

Test tube Solution in syringe (5ml) Blood group

1 Red A

2 White B

3 Pink AB

4 Distilled water O

4. Observe and record the change in colour of the mixture.

5. Repeat the experiment (Step 2 until 4) by replacing the red coloured solution in the test tube
with white (blood group B), pink (blood group AB) and distilled water (blood group O) solution.
6. Tabulate the data.

4. State two rules for blood donation
5. Explain two importance of blood donation.

Conclusion :
There are four blood groups, ….., ….., ……, and ……
Blood group ……. is compatible with …………………………………….
