1. Introduction:
This Design Brief Report (DBR) outlines the basic criteria for the design and detailing of Post- tensioned
Slabs/PT Beams for Proposed Project.
2. Project Description:
The Proposed project consists of Levels of Floors
3. Construction Type:
Buildings will be constructed with Post Tensioned (PT) with Suggested options. The shuttering for the Layout
for each floor will be provided and the reinforcement and duct for post-tensioned tendons will be laid in
position. The slab will be pre-stressed on achieving the 75% of design strength (Once concrete strength attains
25N/mm2).The ducts will be anchored and grouted.
4. Structural System:
The structural system is as specified in the Structural GA drawings released by the Structural Consultant.
BS: 8110 Structural use of concrete. Code of practice for design and construction
6. Design Loads
The Post-Tensioned design is limited to the design of Post-Tensioned flat slabs for the self-weight of structural
elements plus the imposed gravity Loads as specified in the GA Drawings.
6.1 Self Weight.
Self-weight is in accordance to the member size specified in the GA drawing considering the density of concrete
as 25 kN/m3.
Weights of some of the materials used in construction have been extracted from IS: 875 (Part- I) which are as
follows:
Reinforced Concrete 25 kN/m3
Reinforcement/ Structural steel 78.5 kN/m3

Properties : Uncoated stress relieved low relaxation seven ply
Strand as per IS 14268:1995 (Reaffirmed 1997)
8. Design/Detailing Consideration
8.1 Fire Resistance of Elements & Cover to the Reinforcement
All structures will be designed for two hour fire rating. The requirements for fire resistance will be met by
adopting the minimum structural dimensions and clear cover to reinforcement
Minimum dimension of structural element and Nominal cover to reinforcements will be provided as given IS:
456-2000.
Cover to the reinforcement
Minimum clear cover to any reinforcement shall be provided based on the fire requirements and exposure
condition whichever is more.
Clear Cover to the reinforcement will be provided as per IS 456-2000
8.2 Deflection
Incremental deflection is limited to Span/350 or 20mm, whichever is less.
The total upward deflection (at Transfer) should not exceed span/300.
8.3 Stress Limit
Design will be carried out to meet the serviceability requirements as per Cl 24.2.1(c) of IS 1343:2012
At Service
Design Compressive Stress : 0.33 Fck & 0.4 Fck As per BS: 8110
Design Hypothetical Flexural Stress : As per Table 10 of IS: 1343-2012.
At Transfer
Design Compressive Stress : IS: 1343-2012.
Un-tensioned reinforcement:
Minimum Un-tensioned reinforcement of 0.12% of total cross sectional area will be provided in Post-tensioned
Slabs. (Reference IS 456-2000).
For roof slabs top mat of minimum 0.1% Gross C/A(unless temperature Analysis was not carried out).
For slabs ≥300mm minimum top mat shall be provide.
Ductile detailing to be followed as per the consultants Advice.
Top and Bottom reinforcing bars in the PT slab shall be extended into the surrounding RC area for minimum
1000mm or Ld, Whichever is maximum, wherever applicable.
8.6 Analysis and Design Software
The analysis will be based on Equivalent frame method and Finite Element Method.
The following software used for the Analysis,
RAPT
SAFE
ETABS
ADAPT
STAAD.
8.7 Stressing
25% of total jacking force shall be applied as initial pre-stressing at concrete strength of 12.5 Mpa. The total
jacking force of 75% of characteristic tensile strength of strand is applied at concrete strength of 25 Mpa.
The design of PT slab/beam obtained will be vetted by the structural consultant. The additional reinforcement to
resist seismic loads/Temperature will be provided by the structural consultant if required.
.
Formwork shall remain in position until tendons have been fully stressed and the strand elongations results are
satisfactory. The design and erection of shuttering for Slab and the back-propping required for the lower floors,
shall be carried out by the Principal contractors confirming to relevant IS codes.

- SERVICE - CLASS 3 member to BS8110 cl.4.3.4.3(b,c) as Tensile Stress in Concrete > 2.13MPa.
RAPT has carried out a cracked section analysis to determine steel stresses and will have added reinforcement if necessary to limit reinforcement stresses
and crack widths in accordance with BS8110 Part 2 cl.3.6 but allowing no tension in the concrete.
