Observation and analysis

Child’s/Children’s Name/s: Leann

Date: 19/10/2018

What is the context? (Who is present, what are they doing, what happened prior to this etc.)

Leann was playing throwing game with her peers at outdoor area.

What did the child/children do? (Write a detailed observation, and/or include a photograph and/or a
sample -e.g. writing or drawing - and how the child created the sample or what they were doing in the photograph)

Anna Maria and Leann decided to play throwing game in the gross motor area and discussed
the rules for the play later. They stood on the balance beam and took turns to throw a soft toy
on a bag that was in front of them. They adjusted the distance between the bag and the beam.
Anna Maria and Leann moved to face the bag and tried to throw the toy right on the bag by
bending their knees

What learning/ development/dispositions/relationships/interactions did I observe? How

does what is happening in this observation link to the Learning Outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework?

Leann’s is competent to combine gross and fine motor movement during the play. She takes
responsibility for her physical wellbeing as she demonstrates spatial awareness and move
through her environment in self-directed and self-initiated play, linking to the Early Years
Learning Framework (EYLF) Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing (DEEWR,
2009). Leann is able to use her developing communication skills to negotiate and design the
rules for the game, referring to the EYLF Outcome 5 (DEEWR, 2009).

What can I do to extend the child’s learning or development and/or to promote positive
dispositions and/or build positive relationships and promote interactions?

I will provide ball games to the child to extend her hand-eye coordination and muscle strength.
