Fare di Venezia il laboratorio internazionale
di tutte le arti è il progetto della Biennale di
Venezia: non soltanto il luogo privilegiato delle
nuove tendenze, ma anche lo spazio aperto
alla conoscenza, alla formazione e al confronto
tra professionisti e pubblico consapevole,
e un’officina del fare per i giovani che si
affacciano al mondo dell’arte e dello spettacolo.
Si offre l’opportunità ai giovani già impegnati
nei campi della Danza, della Musica e del Teatro
di incontrare dei Maestri che li cimentino su
vie diverse, nuove e originali. Il 41. Festival
del Teatro, organizzato in armonia con questo
programma, diventa il luogo dell’incontro da un
lato con il lavoro dei Maestri dall’altro con quello
di altre istituzioni e soggetti del mondo che
promuovono la professione e la cultura delle
arti sceniche. Grazie al binomio formazione-
festival, il pubblico può così essere “aggiornato”
sulle diverse realtà e sul lavoro delle energie più
vivaci operanti in Italia e nel mondo.

Un festival come “agorà del teatro”, con i migliori
nomi della scena internazionale: Ostermeier,
García, Fabre, Castellucci, Lauwers, Bartís,
Bieito, affiancati da Nadj, Sieni, Kaegi e da artisti,
architetti e scenografi, esperti di video-scrittura
e creatori di luci, saranno i protagonisti di un
festival con molteplici eventi, con tanti artisti
pronti al confronto, con persone che pensano
che il teatro sia molto di più che uno spettacolo.
Perché Venezia e La Biennale non siano soltanto
un palcoscenico, ma anche e soprattutto il
luogo dell’incontro, dell’apprendimento, della
formazione e della discussione delle arti
teatrali a livello internazionale, coinvolgendo
pubblico e professionisti da tutto il mondo per
un’approfondita riflessione sul fare teatro oggi.

L’Amleto di Thomas Ostermeier è un affondo
estremo e ironico nelle contraddizioni del po-
tere, una indagine esasperata nel marcio del
dominio e della sopraffazione; un horror in
cui vita e morte si intrecciano in un selvaggio
e disperato grido di dolore.
To make Venice an international laboratory for all
the arts is the project cultivated by La Biennale
di Venezia: not just a privileged venue for new
trends, but a space open to knowledge, to
education and to debate between professionals
and a savvy public, and a hands-on workshop
for young people making their entrance into
the world of art and performance. It offers the
opportunity for young people working in the
fields of Dance, Music and Theatre to meet the
Masters who can lead them in different, new and
original directions. The 41st Festival, organized to
carry out this program, becomes a place in which
to come into contact with the work of Masters
and with the work of the institutions and subjects
around the world that promote the profession
and culture of theatre arts. The combination
of education-festival makes it possible for the
public to stay “up-to-date” on the many different
realities and the work of the most exciting
energies operating in Italy and the world.
The festival as an “agorà of theatre”, with the
leading personalities on the international scene:
Ostermeier, García, Fabre, Castellucci, Lauwers,
Bartis, Bieito, along with Nadj, Sieni, Kaegi and
artists, architects and scenographers, experts in
video-writing and creators of lighting, will be the
protagonists of a festival featuring a multiplicity
of events, with a significant number of artists open
to dialogue with people who think that theatre is
much more than just a show. So that Venice and
La Biennale might be more than just a stage,
but also a place for meeting, learning, practical
training and for discussion about the dramatic
arts at the international level, involving audiences
and professionals from the world over for a deeper
reflection on what it means to do theatre today.
 
T. Ostermeier’s “Hamlet” is an extreme and
ironic attack on the contradictions of power,
an exasperated exploration into the rotting
decay of control and domination; a horror
show in which life and death interlock in a
wild and desperate cry of pain.

Per Fabre il mito di Prometeo è un mondo
ricolmo di tracce, oggetti, strutture, rumori,
musiche, sovrastato dall’eroe, che troverà la
forza di parlare solo alla fine, in un flusso di
confessioni-allucinazioni che coinvolge tutti i
personaggi.
For Fabre the myth of Prometheus is a world
replete with traces, objects, structures,
noises, music, dominated by the hero, who
will not find the strength to speak until the
end, in a stream of confessions-hallucinations
that will involve all the characters.

Nel bellissimo “Isabella’s Room”, Lauwers
sembra chiedersi «Siamo forse gli oggetti che
possediamo?». Una donna, Isabella Morandi,
s’identifica con numerosi reperti d’archeolo-
gia esotica: sono fossili, tracce di esistenze
umane, vite possibili e passate.
In the wonderful “Isabella’s Room”, Lauwers
seems to wonder: «Are we perhaps the
objects that we possess?». Isabella Morandi
identifies with her many exotic archaeological
artifacts: they are fossils, traces of human
existences, possible and past lives.

ex pugile che festeggia il suo compleanno.
Una storia privata, personale che ripercorre
la grande e piccola storia di un mondo, di un
Paese come l’Argentina, con le sue contraddi-
zioni e le sue violenze.
This is a story in which boxing is female;
a world of men with one woman, a former
boxer who celebrates her birthday. A private,
personal story that reflects the major and
minor history of a country like Argentina, with
its contradictions and its violence.

è un’arma, un flusso ininterrotto che deve
esser colto dall’artista. In questo spettacolo
il confronto è con l’immagine apicale, l’icona
fondante: il volto di Cristo.
In Romeo Castellucci’s theatre, the image
is a weapon, an uninterrupted flux that must
be captured by the artist. In this play, the
confrontation is with the highest of images,
the founding icon: the face of Christ.

In “Muerte y reencarnación en un cowboy”
esplode sulla scena il fallimento completo
dell’Occidente, il declino disperato di un
mondo che s’incarna in una delle icone della
virilità macho: cowboy alle prese con un toro
meccanico e una quantità infinita di birre.

“Desaparecer” è un «poema-concerto per
due voci perse nella nebbia», ispirato ai testi di
due outsider della letteratura, Allan Poe e Wal-
ser, alla loro diversa resistenza al non senso
della vita; è il desiderio di smettere d’esistere
e fondersi con il nulla.

In “Bodenprobe Kasachstan”, le piccole storie
private svelano la grande storia. Germania
e Kazakistan, economie e sfruttamenti,
Seconda Guerra Mondiale e Guerra Fredda:
si attraversano le steppe kazake e la foresta
nera, si parla di oleodotti e di deportazioni.

È una favola nera quella di “Woyzeck”, di
commovente lirismo e struggente dolore:
marginalità e frustrazione, sogni e amori, di-
sincanto e violenza. È una ballata dolente, dal
sapore amaro di un vino da osteria, dal gusto
antico di un amore troppo in fretta distrutto.
 
In “Muerte y reencarnación en un cowboy”
explodes the total failure of the West, the
desperate decline of a world that is incarnated
in one of the icons of macho virility:
the cowboy, at odds with a mechanical bull
and an infinite number of beers.
 
“Desaparecer” is a «poem-concert for two
voices adrift in the fog», inspired by two
outsiders of literature, Allan Poe and Walser,
and by their diverse resistance to the non-
sense of life; it is the desire to stop existing
and to melt into nothing.
 
In “Bodenprobe Kasachstan”, little private
stories reveal a greater history. Germany
and Kazakhstan, economies and exploitation,
World War II and Cold War: this work crosses
the Kazakh steppes and the Black Forest, it
deals with pipelines and deportations.
 
The story of “Woyzeck” is a dark tale,
lyrically moving and painful: marginality and
frustration, dreams and loves, disenchantment
and violence. It is an anguished ballad, with
the bitter taste of bad wine, the ancient flavour
of a love that was destroyed too soon.

the dilation of time, “Osso” looks beyond
the aesthetic factor and fosters intense
emotions.

quasi percorrendo un girone dantesco, gli
spettatori muovendosi attraverso spazi diver-
si - alcuni reconditi e originali, altri conosciuti
e spettacolari - si confrontano con i Sette
peccati del nostro tempo.
“Sette Peccati” is perhaps a journey through
Hell: like Dante’s descent into Hell, the
spectators move through different spaces
– some of them hidden and original, others
famous and spectacular – to come face to
face with the Seven Sins of our own time.
