Consideration of Learners:
How have you responded to your diverse learners? Consider UDL (Multiple means of Engagement, Representation,
Action & Expression) & principles of differentiation. If appropriate, identify individual accommodations you will make
in response to needs or interests of students.
- Students think, pair, and share about the word “good citizens”. Giving each student time to think about the topic
and discuss with their peers will help them guide their thinking and organize their ideas. For ESL, students will be
able to organize words in a sentence with the time given to think about and share with their peers.
- Giving students a sentence format to use when sharing provides a good example to practice giving opinions
logically and clearly.
- Watching a video about good citizens help students imagine if they can be good citizens. Students gain a brief
understanding about being a good citizenship.
- With different pictures represented, students can figure out who act/ do not act like a good citizen. Students can
apply to themselves if they have been acting like good citizens.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Note any specific ways you will use the environment to contribute to the learning.
- Smartboard for the video
- Students will sit with their table groups
DOMAIN 3: INSTRUCTION
CONTENT MANAGEMENT: YOUR INSTRUCTION
Motivation/Opening/Intro: [Think creatively about how to recruit learning.]
- Introduce the Unit
o Write “Good citizens” on the smart board.
o Have students read the word and think, pair, share about the word “Good citizens”
Give them a sentence format (“ I think “good citizens” means ____, because…)
Development: [It may help to number your steps with corresponding times.]
o Unit overview
Show a short videoclip about being a good citizen
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bwfo9aD5A8)
Discuss what they learned from the video that they did not know before
Show different pictures of actions that people take and discuss with the students whether the
person/people act like good citizens
Closure: (Be creative and consider authentic audiences for the work. Think beyond giving an assignment or
independent practice.)
- Pre-assessment
o Introduce KWL chart
Explain what KWL chart is and how to fill it out
Create KWL on the smartboard and fill it out together with the students based on the topic
“Good citizens” (modeling)
Have students fill out each column of the chart: one thing they already know about good
citizens, one thing they want to know about good citizens, and one thing they want to learn
about good citizens; give illustration for each sentence on the bottom
o Sharing time
Have 2-3 students share their KWL chart
