98.6%! Yes, fundraising for the community fishing pier has nearly reached the goal of $25,000. As of Oct. 13, the fund is at just over
$24,642. There’s still time to be a part of this community effort. To make a donation of any size, send your check to Bo’s Pier Group,
265 Turkeysag Trail, Suite 102, #130, Palmyra, VA 22963. Make out your check to LMOA and mark it for “Pier Fund.” Please note:
Donations are not tax deductible. A financial statement is available by written request to the VA Department of Consumer Affairs.
Use of LMOA Meeting Space: If your group, committee or organization uses LMOA meeting space, please remember that
courtesy is a must. Many meetings and activities of differing sizes take place in the Clubhouse each week. Because of the demand for
space, it is sometimes necessary to relocate a group in order to accommodate everyone. This can sometimes be a tedious juggling act,
so it’s important that everyone meet in the space scheduled for them. Please check the Schedule of Events on the Friday Flyer to
confirm the space scheduled for your activity. Occupying space not assigned to you can create problems that affect numerous others.
Ad Hoc Committee on Deer Conception: The next regular meeting will be held on Oct. 20, at 7PM in the Terrace Room.
Guests welcome. Time will be allotted for the member comments.
Next 2011 Budget Meeting: On Tues., Oct. 26, in the Faulconer Room, the Finance Committee, Board of Directors and Staff
will continue to review the proposed 2010 operations budget. In addition, new initiatives will be presented to the group by their
sponsors. Members are welcome to attend all budget development meetings. Time will be allotted for member comments.
2010 Trick-or-Treating at Lake Monticello will take place from 4 to 8PM on Sun., Oct. 31. Parents, please note that, for
the safety of the trick-or-treaters, no candy will be given out at the Main Gate.
Halloween Decorating Contest: To enter this annual event, register with Trish at 589-8263, ext. 101, or
tmitchell@lmoa.org. Judging will take place on Oct. 27. Judges are needed. Contact Trish to volunteer.
Lake Monticello Fall Craft Fair at the Clubhouse, Sat., Nov. 13, from 9AM to 3PM, is a great place to do some early holiday
shopping. Artists and crafters, there’s still time to reserve your spaces. The cost to set up inside the Clubhouse is $35 per space,
including a table, or $25 with your own table. Cost to set up outside with your own table is $25. Reserve your space by calling Andrea
at 589-8263, ext. 102.
Where’s that Darned Dog (or Cat)? A Lake resident was overheard recently telling a companion that
she thought it was too much to ask that she keep her dog from using a neighbor’s lawn as his bathroom. The
reason she gave was that when she lets the dog out to run, she doesn’t know where he is going or what he is
doing. The irony is that a responsible pet owner would not let his/her pet – dog, cat or otherwise – run at large. It isn’t safe for the pet,
and it isn’t in the best interest of good neighborly relations. A third reason is that LMOA policy requires that pets must be on a leash at
all times when off the owner’s property. Be a responsible pet owner: keep your pets under control and avoid the problems that loose
pets can cause.
LMOA policy also requires that the owners pick up, remove and dispose of their pets’ droppings appropriately. Please respect the
policy that requires you to clean up after your pet, and respect your neighbors who must either clean it up themselves or live with the
odor and mess left behind.
