Practicum Goal and Focus

To understand and experience the online forum for teaching. To be able to assist the professor and assist the current students of Transitions to nursing
practice to succeed in this semester. To experience the online learning experience for an instructor and gain knowledge on ways to connect and teach in
an online setting. To be able to interact with students enrolled in the course and assist with grading student work. And over all be able to understand the
role of an online instructor.

1 This outcome was met by meeting with Dr. Murphy and going through 1
my completed grading rubric for both students DQ1 & 2. I also graded
and reviewed the grading rubric for assignment 1 which was a 5 page
paper with Dr. Murphy. Dr. Murphy reviewed many different tips and
ways to approach the grading process and how to use the rubric. She
also stressed to make sure that the student is progressing and
improving based on previous rubric feedback.
2 During the first few weeks I met this outcome. I have responded to 2
both students DQ posts (2 and one in process) and asked each
thought-provoking questions. I served as a role model by adhering to
the scholarly article expectations for all DQ’s. Prior to the start of the
course I had met with Dr. Murphy and she suggested a useful tool
regarding asking questions; the mentoring minds wheel. I got this, and
it has come in handy to assist with coming up with engaging
questions. I am also working on a reference tool for journal retrieval
information that I will finish by the end of the week. This part will be
met in completion in the next weeks.
3 I met this outcome by attending 2 different meetings. I attended a 3
curriculum change meeting with Dr. Murphy which was extremely
interesting and exciting improvements were shared. We discussed
the idea of creating cheaper alternatives to buying numerous
expensive textbooks. I was able to provide my feedback and felt this
was great idea and a large undertaking for Dr. Murphy. It gave me
insight into the other aspects that go into online teaching.

I also was able to attend a committee that was not nursing specific
but the whole college. This committee looked at course changes.
Things as simple as changing the hours that are required for labs need
to have a proposal and be brought to the committee.
4 I have met this goal by interreacting with the students, reviewing the 4
assignments, and meeting with Dr. Murphy to discuss her process
regarding grading, organization, and communication. Dr. murphy has
discussed ways she communicates with students. There have multiple
opportunities to communicate with the students I have been
assigned.

1 I reviewed and graded all work received from two students and then 1
reviewed with Dr. Murphy prior to uploading the grades to the
students. The work graded was 2 DQ’s and assignment 1 (5-page
paper)
2 I met with Dr. Murphy and we went over the process for DQ 2
discussions prior to the start. After the end of the DQ I met with Dr.
Murphy and we went over both students’ discussions and my
responses. I received excellent and purposeful feedback from Dr.
Murphy that will assist me with the next DQ posts. I have used the
mentoring minds wheel reference to ask questions and get the
students thinking.
A resource tool is in process and I am working with Dr. Murphy to
finalize and distribute.
3 Attended two committee meeting via zoom, contributed to the 3
discussions as able. Both committees were related to course and
curriculum changes, one for the school of nursing and the other for
the entire college.

curriculum changes)

4 Met with dr. Murphy weekly. I have communicated with students via 4
email and discussions. I posted the week 4 announcement.
Evaluated how the assignments are created by talking with dr.
murphy and attending committee meeting regrading course changes
for the course I am working with her in.
