Introduction:
My name is Giselle Adame and I was born in Santa Ana, California but when I was 5 years
old my family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, so I have been raised in “The Grand Canyon State”
ever since. I have been married for 6 years to my husband Baldemar and I have a 24-month-old
daughter named Brianna. My hobbies include, reading books for myself and to my daughter,
creating black-out poetry out of old books, creating poetry, and watching movies with my
husband. I also enjoy traveling to the beach in California every summer. In 2017 I graduated
from Estrella Mountain Community College and earned my Associate in Arts Degree. And now I
am currently attending ASU as a full-time student, working towards earning my Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Secondary Education for English to become an Educator.
My journey in wanting to become an educator started when I was only in first grade, when I
realized my inspiration for becoming a teacher was my first-grade teacher named “Ms.
Williamson”, in which her kindness drove me to want to become an educator. Many people in
fact, might say that I was too young to make such a decision about my future in first grade, but
time proved my determination to accomplish my goal in life.
As I grew older my admiration only grew stronger, and when I was a Junior in Trevor G Browne
high school I got accepted into the “Early Childhood Education program”, at Metro-Tech high
school to attend for half of my school days. At MT I learned about early childhood education and
had onsite practice with preschool children, so after high school I was sure about becoming a
preschool teacher. However, as time passed by I got many jobs in the education field that made
me change my view of what kind of teacher I wanted to become, my jobs included: assistant
teacher at a preschool, para-professional at an elementary school, administrative discipline
specialist at a middle school, and school librarian at an elementary school.
Thus, throughout time I decided to combine my love for literature with my passion to teach and
become an English Teacher. And not only because I love literature but because of my own
experience with secondary education. I also came to realize as much as elementary education is
so special and an important milestone in a person’s life, adolescent years are just as special, and
can be the most crucial moment for either a person to fail or succeed in their near future. And

2

Dr. Pirrone
SED 464

working at a middle school in the discipline area, I also realized that there are many troubled
adolescents who need to be helped. Troubled adolescents who need a ray of hope, and be told
that they are smart, important, and that they can succeed. Nevertheless, I want to become a
teacher to be able to be that ray of hope, to inspire students through literature, to help them use
the powerful tool of reading to travel elsewhere in a book. And to use the powerful tool of
writing, to simply express their feelings on a piece of paper. Therefore, my vision statement is
the following:

As a professional educator, I want to inspire and empower scholars in a nurturing and safe
environment, where they can discover and use their own strengths to accomplish all their
goals in life and make their dreams come true in the future. I want to embody confidence in
all my scholars that they are all capable of success with no exception.
-Giselle Adame

Nevertheless, through the research of follow Dr. Harry Wong, Dr. Richard Lavoie, Dr. Fred
Jones, and Madeline Hunter I have created my ideal classroom management plan to create a safe,
motivating and welcoming environment for all students. And, my ideal management plan also
supports all diverse learners in the classroom to provide them with an opportunity to be
successful in their education inside and outside the classroom.

Room Arrangement Rationale

Introduction:
In this room arrangement rational I will explain the reasons why I designed my ideal
classroom the way I did. Thus, my classroom was set up to follow the theory of Fred Jones and
Harry Wong, in which their theory works around proximity and mobility. I have designed my
classroom with the theory of Fred Jones and Harry Wong because through it the teacher is able
to accommodate a diverse group of students. Hence, I will be accommodating and working with
30 students in my classroom.

Filing Cabinets:
I chose to place two filing cabinets behind my desk because they will be to keep important

5
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464

documents such as, state tests, office documents, student files, important notices, grade sheets,
my purse and any other important document. And I placed the cabinets behind my desk because
the further they are from the students the better since they will be keeping confidential and
important files. The filing cabinets are also in the corner behind my computer desk, so they
won’t be in my way when I want to get to the students either for teaching purposes or
emergencies.

Teacher Desk:
I placed my desk in the corner of the front left side of the classroom, so I can have a good
visual of all my classroom/class from a side perspective which would allow me to see what every
student is doing. The position I put my desk allows for my mobility since it is not in the way of
anyone and allows me to easily access my filing cabinets. My desk being in this corner also
allows me to have easy access to my large table where I can put important handouts on and grab
them easily, as well as close to my supply cabinet.

Computer Station:
The computer station is located on my desk in the front left-side of the classroom. I decided to
place it on my desk because I will need a computer to access all my teaching materials,
gradebook etc. The computer station will be for my use only.

Document Camera:
I decided to have a document Camera in my classroom to display important papers or to use
to innovate my lesson plans. The document camera will be placed on the left side of my desk
towards the wall purposely to keep it away from students, so they won’t want to touch it or play
with it.

Trash Can #1:

I will keep a trash can behind my desk for my personal use only, to make it easier for me to
throw things away when I am alone in the classroom doing desk work such as grading papers
after school hours.

Shelf on Wall:
I will keep a small wall shelf behind my teacher desk on the left side of the classroom, so I
can put my own book of the “class read book” I will be reading with my students. Thus, placing
a wall shelf behind my desk will help me not misplace my book or have a student accidently take
it.

Two Frames on Left Wall:

I placed two frames on the left wall of the classroom behind my teacher desk purposely to
display my degree’s and show some ASU spirit to the students. I also decided to frame my
degree to keep myself motivated and to always help me remember why I am in the classroom. In
addition, I want to motivate the students by pointing at my degree and saying to them they are
capable of getting a degree like mine one day in whatever career field they choose.

Sink/Water Fountain:
I decided to put a sink/water fountain in my classroom, right next to the door. I chose to place
the sink next to the door because it will be easier for students to walk in the classroom and get a
drink of water if they must without later asking to leave the classroom and distracting everyone.
The sink can also be helpful for me if there is any sort of classroom incident while doing a
project such as paining on posters, expo marker marks on hands etc.

Shelf & Mini Tree:

As people enter my classroom they will notice a small shelf right next to the door and that is,
so I can place a sign in/sign out sheet for the restroom. I decided to place a sign in/out sheet for
the restroom, so students will not distract others when they need to go to the restroom, they can
just go to the back and sign in/out. And the mini tree I placed there on the book shelf is, so my
classroom won’t look dull but rather interesting with that mini tree. I’m sure the small tree will
also will catch everyone’s attention as they walk in my classroom since it is a small tree. In
addition, I will be able to place different type of decorations in between the shelf by the door
such as more interesting plants.

Door/Welcome Mat:
The door in my ideal classroom is in the back. It is in the back of the classroom so when
visitors or the principal comes in the classroom they can easily enter without feeling like a
distraction to the learning of the students. And the welcome mat is just a friendly warm
welcoming sign for visitors and for my students.

Trash Can #2:

The trash can #2 is placed next to the door so when students walk into my classroom they can
get rid of trash or gum. I also decided to place the trash can in the back of the classroom so when
student’s need to throw something away they won’t be a distraction to their classmates.

Large Round Table #1 & 2:

In my classroom, I have two large round tables. The first table I placed next to my desk in the
left front corner. I have the first table, so I can put important worksheets that I will be handing
out during a class time in between a lesson. I also have that table for group work, so I can call
group of student’s or individual students to work with them in that table. This first table will also
be here to accommodate any student that is handicap, so they will have a good view of the front.

8
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

I also placed the table there, so it wouldn’t be in the way of any of the students or mine when I
must get to a student which will allow for my mobility around the classroom. The second-round
table will be in the back of the classroom on the right left corner. This table will be purposely for
group work only, so students can have a table to work on if they want to do group work, and of
course if they earn the privilege to work back on this table.

Motivational Posters & Bulletin Board:

I will have two motivational posters in the back of the classroom near the second-round table
to make students feel motivated when they are back there. And also, so students can feel
motivated as they walk into the classroom, since they will be able to read “You Know You Can
Do It” and “Keep Calm and Carry On” from the posters that will be up in this back corner of the
classroom. I also chose to place the poster’s in the back so the students in the class can feel a
warm/motivational corner to want to work in, the purpose of all this is also so it can promote
positive behavior to want to work back there. In this same corner, I will place a bulletin board
that has a white board on it, in which I will allow students to write positive things on when they
earn the right to work in the back in a group. I will also attach pictures of students working in the
classroom each month in this bulletin board to just keep them motivated.

Trash can #3:

I will have the last trashcan in the back left of the classroom because it gives good proximity
to students. Thus, those students that sit in the left side of the classroom can quickly throw their
trash away to the nearest trash can without losing a great amount of instruction time with
walking to the left side of the classroom to get to trashcan #2. And, students that work in group
work can also have their own trashcan near.

Supply Cabinet:
My supply cabinet will be on the left wall of my classroom. I have placed my supply cabinet

9
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

next to my teacher desk, so I can have easy access to whatever supply a student might need in
my lesson plan. I decided to place a large supply cabinet to keep my own supplies and the
student’s supplies. On top of my supply cabinet I will place a vintage clock, so students can see
the date and time. I have placed this in the left side of the classroom, so students won’t get
distracted with the time when I am in the middle of a lesson and it also allows me to see the time
better.

Laptop Cart:
I decided to have a laptop cart for my classroom because I will incorporate instruction with
technology. I want to have laptops for every student, so they can easily access material such as
interactive vocabulary websites, pdf file readings, Microsoft Office, online quizzes, online
vocabulary games, do research and more. Thus, the laptop cart will be placed in the back of the
classroom so when I call a certain number of students to get their laptop they will have a
spacious area to not run into each other or feel crowded.

5 Bulletin Boards in the Back:

I decided to have five different bulletin boards in the back of the classroom. The first bulletin
board is right next to the door, and it will be the bulletin board that shares a white board, so I can
write in reminders for students such as important dates, school event’s, days off, etc. And by
having that bulletin next to the door the students will easily be able to read it when they enter the
classroom and when they leave the classroom. In this shared bulletin board, I will also put up
school spirit items and current flyers from school clubs/events. On the second bulletin board I
will put up my classroom expectations, so students can remember what is expected of them when
they enter the classroom. On the following three other bulletin boards I will use to decorate
colorfully and use it as a “wall of fame” to display student’s nice work. And I decided to place
them in the back so again, as the students enter and exit the classroom they can view the nice
work of their classmates or their very own. I will be planning to change the work on all bulletin
boards weekly, and even daily if there is new news to post up.

Wall Shelf:
I placed a wall shelf on the back of the classroom near all the bulletin boards, so I can display
the current book our class is reading, purposely for visitors like the principal and etc.

2 Small Book Shelfs:

I decided to place two small book shelfs in the right side of the room, so I can put in my class
read set of books for my students. I also chose to lean them on the wall, so they will allow my
mobility since it will not be on my way but instead leaning on the wall and out of the way.

1 Big Book Shelf

I also chose to have one big book shelf to place different books for students to check out from
me or read while in my classroom. I wanted the book shelf to be big, so I could provide a variety
of books for them. And I once again, leaned it towards the wall on the right side of the classroom
so the book shelf would not be on the way of my mobility or the student’s desks.

Windows:
My ideal classroom has two large windows to allow sunshine in. I feel like that natural light is
very uplifting, so I want my students to feel motivated with the sun and it would help them wake
up with the bright sunlight.

American Flag, Constitution, and Declaration of Independence:

My classroom will have the American flag in the front right side of the classroom, along with
the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. I placed all three of them in the front of the
classroom so that the students that recite the “I Pledge of Allegiance” can have a good view of

11
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

the flag. In addition, students will be able to have good knowledge of what the Constitution and
Declaration of Independence is.

White Boards:
In my ideal classroom I decided to have three white boards and one smart board in the front
of the classroom. On the left side I wall place the white board, following with the smart board in
the center and then I added two more white boards next to it. The last white board that is on the
right side will be used so I can write daily objectives, and bell schedules on the top corner. The
rest of the white boards/white board space will be used for daily instruction when I am not using
the smart board.

Smart Board:
The smartboard will be in the front wall of the classroom right in the center. It will be placed
there so every student is able to see the lesson. It will allow them to focus on what I show
them/teach them.

Mounted Projector:
The mounted projector is in the middle of the classroom right on top of the ceiling. I will have
it in the middle because it is needed for when I use the smart board and the document camera.

Vintage Map:
I put a vintage map next to the white boards on the left side of the front wall. I placed the map
in the front, so students can have a good visual of a vintage map instead of any other classroom
wall distractions, especially with ADHD students I don’t want to overwhelm anyone.

12
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464

Homework Station:
I placed the homework station on top of the two small book shelfs under the window. I placed
a homework bin for each class period, so I can have all the homework organized. I will also but a
bin for absent students or late work. I placed in on the right side of the wall because I am not
planning to let all my students get up but have the person on the left side of the room pick up the
homework for their whole horizontal row in the morning when I tell them to.

Students Desks:

I will have 32 desks for students in my classroom. Although I will have 30 students, I chose
to add 2 more desks in my classroom just in case new students join in or in case I need a student
to work alone in the back. The desks will be paired up in two’s and will be all in four vertical
rows and four horizontal rows. I chose to have the desks paired up in two’s, so we won’t lose any
instruction time when doing partner work, instead they can easily turn to their partner. And it
will be easier to move around when doing group work if the desks are already in partners of two.
All the student desks will also be facing forwards towards the front of the classroom, so students
won’t be distracted staring at other students. Students facing forward will also allow students to
listen better and pay attention to the lesson/lecture in the front. In addition, the way I set up the
desks in four vertical rows and four horizontal rows allows for proximity and mobility to
navigate to any other desk or student easily which is very important. Thus, the way I set up the
students’ desks gives plenty of walkways for the students and I to pass where we need to. And of
course, each student will have to place their backpack on the back of their chair, this way they
won’t be trying to dig into their backpack during class time and the backpacks won’t be on
anybody’s way allowing for a clear walkway.

Classroom Procedures
Beginning Class:
I will allow students to enter the classroom as soon as they get to the classroom, so the door
will remain open. I will be by the door as the students enter the classroom, and standing in an

13
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

angle in which I could see the inside of my classroom and the student's that are coming in. As
my students enter my classroom I will be greeting them and using words of encouragement as
they enter as well as asking how they are doing. Once students are inside the classroom they will
go directly to their desk and take out the materials they need which will be their daily journal
notebook, class binder, and pencil. Then students will place their homework on the right side of
their desk, if they have late homework they will place it on the left side of their desk with a
yellow or any color post-it note on it. Once all students have all the materials needed for the day
they will hang their backpack behind their chair, so it won’t be a distraction for the class.
Students will then proceed to do their bell-work that will be on the smart board which will be to
answer a writing prompt that will be given to them.

Student absences:
As soon as the bell rings I will close the door in my classroom and sit right away at my desk
to start taking attendance and recording student absences. I will then note the number of students
that are absent and place all the worksheets/homework that will be handed out for the day for
them. Thus, when students are absent they will be informed that they have to come to me at the
beginning of class to pick up from the absence folder any assignments that were missed by them
due to their absence. And, since Dr. Harry Wong advises that students should have the same
amount of days they were absent to work on their missed work, I will allow students to turn in
work in the equivalent amount of days they were absent to receive full credit for it.

Managing student work:

Every student will place their homework on the left side of their desk upon arriving into the
classroom. Thus, when students are working on bell-work I will signal the students who are
seated in the left side of each horizontal row to pick up the homework for their row and place it
on the homework bin for their current class period. If a student has late work, they will place it
on their left side of their desk, so it can be placed in the "late work" bin by the assigned student
who picks up homework. And, I chose to have only the students sitting on the left side of the row
to pick up the homework and turn it in, so I won't have a crowd of students near the homework
station. I also chose only a small number of students to turn in homework, so I won't have
students dig into their backpack and into every paper they have from their backpack to look for

14
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

homework, since I know every student is different and not everyone will be as organized as
others. As students are finishing up bell work I will also be handing out work that has been
graded already, so after students finish their bell work they can take a look at their work and then
put it back into their class binder. If I also have to hand out some sort of materials for the lesson,
I will ask the same students that pick-up homework to pick up the materials right after and hand
them out to the students in their row before beginning the lesson of the day.

Late work:
If students have late work they have to turn in they will place it on the left side of their desk
with a yellow or any color post-it note on it, so the homework collector can know to place It on
the late work bin. Students who turn in late work for any reason other than being absent will be
warned that they will not receive full credit for it and that it will affect their grade. Thus, late
work will be not encouraged but everyone will still be required to turn in ALL work even if it’s
late to receive some credit for it. If students turn in more than 2 assignments late then they will
be getting a letter sent home to their parents in which their signature is required to let the parent
know that the child needs to turn in their work on time and that their grade is being affected.

Transitions between activities:

To transition from bell work to a lesson I will have students put away their journals and I will
have the smart board ready with learning targets/objectives that students will be learning and
aiming for. I will then proceed to review the targets with the students, so they can know what to
expect from the lesson I will be teaching that day.

To transition into required group work I will place group work expectations on the smart
board which will explain how students should behave, what is their group's goal/task and how
much time they will get to work together, so students know what is expected of them while being
in groups. And if I want students to partner up in groups of twos’ then I will just have them stay
where they are and work with the partner that is beside them. If I want students to partner up in
quads, then I will have students in row one and three quietly and appropriately turn their desk
around to face students in rows two and three. I will only give students 10 seconds to get into
groups of four, and I will signal the 10 seconds are up when I start ringing the small hand bell I

15
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464
24 September 2018

will have. When students are done with group work I will also give students 10 seconds to return
their desk to their original spot, and once again ring the small hand bell I will have to signal the
students their time is up.

On test days students will do their assigned bell work, put away their journal when they are
finished and clear out their desk. Students should only leave a pencil on their desk during test
days.

Consideration of diverse learners:

All the students in my classroom will have equal rights to participate and understand the
lesson I will be teaching; thus, my lesson will include every IEP and 504 plans. So as Dr.
Richard Lavoie recommends, my procedures will be easy to follow with specific instruction to
avoid confusion from any student. Nevertheless, I will post up classroom procedures in the back
of the classroom, so students can view as they enter and exit the classroom, so it can serve as a
reminder to diverse learners and all my class of what is expected when being in the classroom. I
will also be reviewing and re-teaching my procedures throughout the school year to refresh
memories. And I will also have the daily targets/objectives in the front of the classroom on the
whiteboards written, so students can also remember what they will be learning or are learning in
the classroom. I will also verbally review all the targets/objectives to students, so they can all
understand what will be taught to them and what they should leave knowing for that day they are
in my class. And, most importantly I will follow IEP’S and 504’s all the time to teach and
explain procedures and instruction better to diverse learners, so they can be successful in my
classroom.

Ending Class:
I will end class time by having students do a closure, I will not allow students to pack up their
things, get their backpack or get up from their seat until they have completed the closure. The
closure that will be provided to students will vary, it will be from answering a prompt of what
the students have learned to practicing a target that had to be learned by the end of class time
through a small activity. I will then be standing by the door so when a student is finished with
their closure they can pack up their things and hand me their paper as a ticket out the door.

16
Giselle Adame
Dr. Pirrone
SED 464

Communicating with parents:

I will send a newsletter at the beginning of the school year to parents in which I will be
introducing myself, giving out my email, and my class Dojo number so they can contact me via
the phone app that is downloadable in every type of mobile device. I will provide them with their
parent portal to view student’s grades as well. I will also provide a brief description of how class
Dojo is a very useful way to communicate with me if they have any questions or concerns they
would like to talk about. On the newsletter I will also explain my classroom rules and procedures
and have them review them with their student, I will then ask the parents to sign the bottom of
the paper and return it back to me. I will require parent’s signatures, so I can be sure the students
and parents both reviewed all my classroom procedures, rules, and consequences. On the paper
the parents will be signing they will also be asked to provide their phone number, and email so I
can be able to contact them when necessary.

On class Dojo, I am planning to send out messages every week to parents, so they can know
what their student will be learning, and what type of homework they should be seeing them do. I
will also post up school events, important dates, important flyers on to Dojo so parents can see
what is going on in our school and classroom.

I will also send a hard copy of newsletters to each parent every month explaining what our
class has learned and what we will be doing in the upcoming month to keep parents more
involved in their child’s school work.

If a student is doing extremely good in my classroom, either showing an improvement in one

area or excellent work I will contact parents by phone to talk about the student’s splendid
behavior. If the student is constantly doing good in class I will send messages on Dojo as well to
parents to let them know their child keeps doing excellent.

If a student is doing poorly in class I will also contact the parent by phone to talk about what
is going on in class with the student, and to talk about a plan on how to help improve the
student’s behavior or class work.

Grading and recording students work:

Assignments and quizzes will be graded and returned on the next school day. Tests will be
graded and returned within three days. Essays will take up to one week to grade, journals/bell
work will take up to one week to grade as well. I will enter grades into the grade book as soon as
I finish grading papers. I will grade all work after school every day to finish all grading on
campus and I will be dedicated to grade as soon as possible to enter all grades in the grade book.

Rules and Consequences

The classroom rules I have chosen will follow due process. They were chosen to follow the
research of Harry Wong, Fred Jones, and Richard Lavoie, so all students and myself can benefit
by having a clear understanding of the safe learning environment that will be cultivated in the
classroom. The rules will apply to each student and are intended to cultivate respect as well.
Hence, the rules are easy to understand, so they meet the needs of all students including diverse
learners. I will teach and model the rules on the first day of school and review them as many
times necessary in class during the entire school year. I will also post the rules in the back of the
classroom, so students can take a look at them as they enter and leave the classroom. The rules
chosen are also aligned with district policy and student handbook policies.

Classroom Rules:

1. One person speaks at a time- always using appropriate language when speaking to
anyone in the classroom and respecting all ideas given in class by not criticizing
anybody’s ideas or thoughts.
2. Remain seated at all times unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
3. Take care of personal, classroom, and school property.
4. All cellphones and electronic devices must be turned off and put away in your backpack
before entering the classroom.
5. Always show “SWAG”
SWAG: S-Sitting up straight. W-working hard. A-Attention on task. G-Greatest effort.

All consequences chosen will follow due process. They are all aligned with district policy and
student handbook policies. They will be enforced to each student the same and will be consistent.
Consequences will also take into consideration the needs of diverse learners and will follow
IEP’S and 504 plans accordingly. All consequences will also be taught and posted in the bulletin
board in the back of the classroom, so students can take a look at them as they enter and leave
the classroom.

Consequences:

1. First Offense: Warning/Conference

2. Second Offense: Detention
3. Third Offense: Call home
4. Fourth offense: Administrative Referral
**Teacher reserves the right to skip steps based upon the severity of the violation**

Summary

My classroom management plan all throughout was created to follow Dr. Harry Wong, Dr.
Richard Lavoie, Dr. Fred Jones, and Madeline Hunter intentionally to support all diverse learners
